Benecos Natural Beauty: Brand Overview

I love trying new beauty brands, you never know what gems you might find! Today I thought I would share with you my thoughts on three products from Benecos, as well as a little about this modern organic cosmetics company.

Usually when I see the term natural used in cosmetics, I can be pretty certain that I won’t be able to use the majority of products. This is because of my allergies. Among other things I’m allergic to wheat, nuts, citrus & sesame, all of which crop up more commonly than your would expect in beauty products. Especially when it comes to natural beauty. Benecos is no exception to this, but the thing I love about their website is that they have product ingredients readily available for all their products. You wouldn’t believe the times I haven’t been able to buy a product in a store because, despite it being a legal requirement, the ingredients lists aren’t available & there’s nowhere online that I can find them. This is one of the reasons I like to include ingredients lists in my reviews where possible. This lack of vital information is hugely frustrating, so props to Benecos for including it & making my life & the lives of other people with allergies that little bit easier.

All products marked with * have been gifted to me for consideration. More information can be found in my full disclaimer.

Benecos offer natural makeup, nail polish & skincare products. Their focus is on using organic ingredients, being free from paraffin, paragons, silicones, PEG, synthetic colour, synthetic fragrance & synthetic preservatives. In addition to this, Benecos don’t test on animals & some of their products are vegan. I’d love to see them develop this side of things further to add more to their vegan range. I know that some people won’t buy from cruelty free companies if they are part of a bigger brands that tests on animals. I’m not sure whether all vegans would feel comfortable purchasing from a brand who do use animal products, such as beeswax, in some of their products.

Natural Quattro Eyeshadow in Beautiful Eyes* £6.95

Initially, I wasn’t too impressed with this quad. With my MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot as my base, the shimmering white & shimmering brown were beautifully pigmented. However, I didn’t find the satin finish pink & purple shades, to be pigmented but rather a light wash of colour. I’m not sure if this was because of the base I used, if I was looking at the shadows in the wrong light, or if the top of the pan needed to be broken into before getting the true pigmentation. On the second day (pictured) I used this quad with the Urban Decay Original Primer Potion as my base. The difference was astonishing! These are beautifully pigmented eyeshadows that are easy to work with. I’m not keen on using a shimmery shadow for my brow bone, so instead, chose to use this as a highlighter. It works beautifully for this! The Natural Quattro Eyeshadow is one of the vegan products in Benecos’ range & one I would highly recommend!

Natural Shiny Lip Colour in Pretty Daisy* £6.95

Benecos claim this lip pencil is hydrating, nourishing, easy to apply, protects the lips & is soft. I would agree with each of these points. The lip colour is comfortable & very pleasant feeling on the lips. It left mine feeling like I’d been wearing lip balm. The colour is sheer, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I would opt to use this shade as an every day colour if & when I go back to work because of it’s subtle look, the moisturising element & the ability to reapply easily on the go. I have a problem with an ingredient(s) in some lip products & I’m still trying to determine what it is. I’ve started documenting this journey in my ingredient elimination posts, which I need to do another version of. I can sometimes apply a lip product & not know it doesn’t agree with my lips until the next day. This makes buying lipsticks, glosses & pencils tricky at times. I was really pleased that I had absolutely no problems with this lip colour & would definitely check out the ingredients with a view to picking one up yourself if you have sensitive lips. The Natural Shiny Lip Colour is not vegan.

Natural Nail Polish in Oh La La* £6.95

This was the only product I didn’t get on with. I struggle with nail polishes in general. Out of the 100+ nail polishes I own, there are only about 3 that stay on my nails & don’t chip until day three. Of the rest, approximately 50% chip on the second day & the other 50% don’t make it 24 hours without chipping. Unfortunately, this polish fell into that less than 24 hours category. I was hoping that it was just a once off, but the same happened when I applied the polish a second time. I used my normal base coat, two coats of the Natural Nail Polish & then my usual top coat. The Natural Nail Polish might last better on me if my nails were in a better condition. I didn’t get on with the thick, round lid of the bottle for applying polish. I’m not sure if this is because of the way my EDS affects my hands, but I suspect not. I am much more likely to have dropped this lid & got nail polish everywhere than with most of my other nail polishes. I love the shade, which is one of 16. I’m really impressed that it’s free from toluene, camphor, phthalates, formaldehyde & colophony. As a result, this polish is gentler on the nails & doesn’t smell strongly like a lot of nail polishes do. Although I can’t recommend this nail polish personally, I would highly suggest that you try & find some other reviews before dismissing it, as I seem to be in a very small minority who can’t seem to keep most polished from chipping for more than 2 days! This is one of Benecos’ vegan products.

    • The colour is gorgeous! I’m not too disappointed that it didn’t work for me, I’ve gotten rather used to not getting a great result from nail polished in general. Xx

  • Cydney

  • I haven’t heard of this brand before! Thank you for the thorough review. I’m rather picky with nail polish so I won’t be trying that one.

    • I’m glad it was helpful! You may find you get on with the nail polish, but if you’re picky I wouldn’t recommend trying it. Xx
