Eczema is a type of allergic reaction and comes under the umbrella of dermatitis. It can often run in families, alongside other types of allergic reactions such as asthma, hay fever, food allergies & rhinitis. Eczema affects each person differently.

Symptoms can include:

  • Dry & sensitive skin
  • dark coloured patches of skin (I have had mine referred to a sunburn)
  • oozing &/or weeping skin
  • intense itching
  • red inflamed skin

There are different types of eczema:

  • atopic dermatitis
  • hand eczema
  • contact dermatitis
  • seborrheic dermatitis
  • dyshidrotic eczema
  • nummular eczema
  • neurodermatitis
  • stasis dermatitis
  • dermatitis atopica

Eczema can be caused or aggrivated by:

  • foods
  • stress
  • hormones
  • temperature
  • house dust mites
  • pets
  • pollen
  • moulds
  • soaps
  • scented products
  • detergents

One of the reactions caused by food allergies is the aggravation of eczema. Some of the most common culprits for this are citrus fruits – oranges, lemons, limes, etc.
