The ‘pregnancy glow’ has well and truly passed me by without a second glance. My skin is dryer than the sahara desert and breaking out in eczema all over the place. This is not helped by the fact that it’s now winter, as time when my skin is always drier because of the cold, the wind (not that I’m out much) and central heating. So I’m embracing faking a gorgeous glow and thought I’d share with you my favourite highlighters, that are helping me achieve this. After all, you can’t beat a good highlighter for the festive season, right!?

My Favourite Highlighters: Sleek Solstice Palette £9.99
One of the newest additions to my makeup collection is the Sleek Solstice palette. I’d been eying this quad up for such a long time before I bought it. I think it was the cream product that was putting me off. I wasn’t sure how often I’d use it. The purple shade intimidated me too. But, It was love at first application when I tried the powders. I still haven’t plucked up the courage to try the cream, but I will – promise! I really wish I’d bought this palette sooner. It’s absolutely stunning. Sleek really know how to do highlighters.
My Favourite Highlighters: MAC Soft and Gentle £24.50
MAC Soft and Gentle is a shade I bought because of the hype and for a few years was really disappointed with it. It struck me as way too glittery and in-your-face. I’m not sure what happened to change my views on this highlighter. I’m not sure whether I’ve found a better brush to use, got used to a more intense highlight, or a combination of the two. But, I’m very glad that I finally understand the hype with this product. The shade is a great option that goes well with almost every makeup look!
My Favourite Highlighters: Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (Pressed) in Opal £32
Possibly my absolute favourite highlighter is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. It’s a gorgeous shade for my skin tone (light with yellow undertones), glides on beautifully and gives a stunning glow to my skin. I fell in love on first application and now I want more! Thankfully, Becca have since released the mini versions, which are £15 compared to £32 for a full size. I’ve never even managed to make a dent in any of my highlighters, so for me the minis are definitely the way to go. Saying this, Champagne Pop has been on my wish list for years and isn’t currently available in the UK as a mini. So I’ll probably invest in the full size.
My Favourite Highlighters: The Balm MaryLou Manizer £20
This was another highlighter that initially I really didn’t love. It struck me as WAY too gold toned for my light skin. But actually, MaryLou is a lovely champagne shade that’s really flattering on me! The powder is soft, smooth and pigmented. As a result, it applies beautifully. I just wish I’d been able to accurately judge the shade when I first got it!
My Favourite Highlighters: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette £59
The Ambient Lighting Powders are great multi-purpose options. Fab for dusting all over the face, but they can also be used to create a subtle highlight when applied with a more dense brush. Not only this, they can also be used as a blush topper, as I’ve shown in my Creating A Blusher Using The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette post. The shade range is gorgeous, so there’s bound to be a perfect match for everyone. I love the palette, because it gives me three shades that I can use in a variety of different ways. Very versatile!
My Favourite Highlighters: NARS Bord De Plage Palette £45
A recent addition, the NARS Bord De Plage palette was released this summer and I couldn’t resist it. The palette has four beautiful highlighters, that give gorgeous pay off when applied to the skin. I can see this being in my makeup bag every time I go away, because it has a highlight shade for every makeup look. Surprisingly, I love all six of the shades in this palette. Usually, palettes have at least one shade that I’m not overly keen on, but not this one!
My Favourite Highlighters: Highlighters I Need To Use More
I feel like for the most part, this has been a fairly generic post. I’ve raved about a few highlighters that everyone and their cat has heard of. So in addition, I thought I’d share a couple of sentences on the highlighters I have, but really need to use more. I didn’t feel that I could quite include them as my favourite highlighters, because they often get overlooked by the ones above. But they deserve more love than I give them. So here goes:
If subtle is your thing, then the Soap And Glory Glow All Out Luminizing Face Powder is the highlighter for you. I anticipate this will be my most used ‘Mummy highlighter’ as it’s not in-your-face, but gives a natural glow to the skin.
If you’ve read my Sleek Face Contour Kit Review, you’ll know that I love the highlighter shade from this kit but the contour shade just doesn’t work for me. As a result, I never find myself reaching for the highlighter. Which is silly. So I’m going to make a concerted effort to use this more.
The Laura Mercier Face Illuminator Highlighter in Indiscretion is beautiful. Why don’t I use it more? I don’t want to ruin that beautiful pattern. Silly I know. This was initially released as a limited edition highlighter, but has since been added to the permanent collection. Seeing as I can always buy another, I really need to use this more!
Two limited edition products that I’ve been scared to touch are MAC’s Whisper Of Guilt and Dior’s Amber Diamonds Highlighter. But this is silly! There’s no point having something only for it not to be used. So I’m going to pull them both out and use them more, focussing on one part of the pan. This way, i’ll keep some of the pretty pattern untouched for longer. I saw a YouTuber do this and thought it was a fantastic idea.
My Favourite Highlighters: Highlighters I Really Want To Try
Highlighters attract me like pretty sparkly things attract magpies. So there are quite a few I’d like to pick up and add to my collection. These include:
Too Faced Love Light Highlighter
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick and Highlighting Powder
Hourglass Ambient Strobe Powders
Kevin Aucoin Celestial Powder
Anastasia Beverly Hills Highlighter
Can you guess what my Christmas list is largely made up of!?! Highlighters! Haha
