You might’ve seen me tweet a while ago, asking for recommendations of hair brushes with a long handle. My PoTS has declined so much because of pregnancy, that I can no longer raise my arms up to my head and brush my hair without significant dizziness. In my tweet, I included a screenshot of the Aidapt Long Handle Hair Brush. This was the only long handled hair brush I could find online. I was concerned about the quality, as it looked cheap and basic from the images online.

I hoped I might get some good recommendations from Twitter. But unfortunately, I just ended up with a few unhelpful paddle brush suggestions. I can only assume people didn’t understand what I was asking in my tweet (despite the inclusion of the image – depicting the long handle). So in the end, I conceded that I’d never find a long handles hair brush that was the same quality as my beloved tangle teezer and placed an order for the Aidapt Long Handle Hair Brush. After all, what’s worse? Getting dizzy every time you brush your hair, or putting up with a less than great quality hair brush?
To my surprise, my concerns about the quality of the brush were unfounded! It’s not Tangle Teeter caliber. But, it certainly isn’t the awful child’s toy hair brush that I was concerned it might be. I think I was most concerned about the space between the bristles. I couldn’t imagine that, with such big gaps, the brush would be particularly effective. Thankfully, I’ve been impressed with how nice it feels to use this hair brush and the results that it gives.
While the Aidapt Long Handle Hair Brush does look a little cheap, the plastic feels substantial but not heavy at 0.16kg (0.35lbs). The rubber grip on the handle has meant that I need less grip to keep hold of the brush as I use it, meaning less hand pain with my hEDS. I’m also less prone to dropping the Aidapt Long Handle Hair Brush than I was my Tangle Teezer. Though I can’t say whether that’s because of the grip on the handle or the lack of dizziness from not lifting my hand too high.
Now, if only Tangle Teezer would come out with a long handled hair brush in a variety of colour options…

I was eligible for VAT relief when I bought the Aidapt Long Handle Hair Brush. VAT relief is available on some disability living aids to those with a long term chronic illness or disability. You’ll need to download Amazon’s VAT relief form once you’ve purchased the item. Once they’ve received the completed form, they then refund you the VAT.
UPDATE: After using this brush for 8 months, the plastic with the bristles on has come away from the brush’s main structure. Very disappointing, particularly as I haven’t been using this brush on a daily basis.
