Baby Monkey Unicorns Woven Wrap Review

If you’ve read my first ever babywearing blog post, a review of Baby Monkey Symphony, Linen Blend woven wrap, you’ll know just how special this brand are to me. When I spotted this gorgeous unicorns wrap on Baby Monkey’s Instagram account, I fell in love with the design instantly. So, for my birthday, I treated myself to one in a size 4.

A white woman is sitting in her garden, in her wheelchair. She has short brown hair and is wearing glasses with dark green lenses. She has on a grey long sleeve top, knee length denim skirt, black leggings and short black boots. She has her 1 year old wrapped to her front in a unicorn woven wrap. They are looking at each other lovingly.

Baby Monkey Unicorns woven wrap is made from 100% cotton and weighs 250gsm (grams per square metre). This is the sweet spot for me in terms of weight – thick enough to give good support even in a sloppy wrap job, but not so thick that it hurts my joints when I tighten the wrap strand by strand (damn my bendy, hEDS joints!).

Currently, the Unicorn design is only available in once colour options as a wrap – Aurora. I love how this colour scheme blends subtly from light blue through light purple and light pink. It gives an extra etherial, magical element to what’s already a beautiful design. But, if you’re not a fan of the Aurora colour scheme, like buckles and want a unicorn sling, a Baby Monkey Regolo might be just the option for you! These are available in Himalaya Reverse Glitter (pink) and Smeraldo Glitter (green).

I love my Baby Monkey Unicorns wrap, it’s a great all rounder wrap. It’s what I reach for whenever we’re going to be around children, because they all love the design! I’ve also found I’ve reached for when I’ve felt low, as the design lifts my mood.

The texture of the pattern give a good amount of grip, without being hard to work with. It’s a wrap that works equally well in single layer and multi layer carries. There’s a nice amount of flexibility in the weave that makes it soft and mouldable without being stretchy and the fabric is breathable. With the exception of the heatwave (when I used my Calin Bleu Cotton Gauze wraps exclusively), I happily used my Baby Monkey Unicorns wrap during the summer months.

I found that this wrap required minimal use before to break it in, which is how I like my wraps! I don’t have the time, patience or physical ability to spend a long time working with a crunchy, rigid wrap while it breaks in.

Because Baby Monkey Unicorns woven wrap is one that has an obvious right and wrong size, it isn’t a wrap that I’d reach for to do a carry that shows both sides of the fabric, like Kangaroo. However, I don’t tend to do this type of carry often so it isn’t a deal breaker for me.

You can buy a size 4 Baby Monkey Unicorn wrap for €86 (approximately £77) from babymonkey.it. As well as other lengths of wrap (sizes 3-6), you can also get this design as a right or left shoulder ring sling.
