Top 5 Christmas Pop Songs

What encompasses the spirit of Christmas more than music? For me, not a lot (but maybe that’s because I’m still a musician at heart!)! So today I thought I would share with you my top 5 Christmas pop songs to help you get into the festive spirit!

Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy – Pentatonix

I’ve loved Pentatonix since Dan first showed me their take on Daft Punk medley. I subscribed to their YouTube channel & a few years ago up popped their cover of Joy To The World. I noticed they have a Christmas album out, so of cause I had to check it out & look what I found! I love Tchaikovsky’s Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy & think Pentatonix have done a great job creating an a capella vocal version.

All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey

Release in 1994, this song debut in the charts at number 5, moving up to number 2 a week later. Surprisingly (at least to me!), this song was pipped to number 1 spot but East 17’s Stay Another Day. Out of the two, I would have guessed that All I want For Christmas Is You would have taken the number 1 spot, but maybe that’s because I’ve heard it every year for the part 20+ years!

Last Christmas – Wham!

Wham’s Last Christmas never fails to make me think of my Dad! I don’t know why! It was released in 1984 & was beaten to the number 1 spot by Band Aid 30’s Do They Know It’s Christmas? Last Christmas is also the second biggest (again to Do They Know It’s Christmas?) selling Christmas song in the UK & is the biggest selling single not to reach the number 1 spot!

Walking In A Winter Wonderland – Dean Martin

Original by Richard Himber with his Hotel Ritz-Carlton Orchestra, Walking In A Winter Wonderland was released in 1934. This version by Dean Martin, a member of The Rat Pack (a multi-talented group of friends, actors & musicians) was released in 1959. I also like the Bing Crosby version of this song. This song reminds me of playing in the snow & building a snowman with my sister in our back garden!

Let It Snow – Frank Sinatra

The original version of Let It Snow was released by Vaughn Monroe in 1945. Frank Sinatra (another member of The Rat Pack) released his version in 1950. I love the music of this era, which is probably why two of my top 5 Christmas pop songs are from the 50s!
