My hair has gone through a transition from straight with a kink, to full on tight curls & back again because caused by the Sodium Valporate I took for my basilar type migraine & have now had to stop for safety during pregnancy. So, I thought I would share with you my haircare routine for when my hair is curly, as well as straight (ish!). It’s always had an element of frizz to it, so all the products I use are aimed at reducing & managing this.
I’m a big fan of the John Frieda Frizz-Ease haircare range, so a lot of the products you see included are from there!
For Curly Hair
For when my hair is curly, I wash it with the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Dream Curls shampoo & conditioner twice a week. Between washes, I also dampen hair & add conditioner to revive my curls. If I were to get up & not wet my hair it would just be a mass of frizz, which isn’t cute!

For Straight (ish!) Hair
For when my hair is straighter I wash it with the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Flawlessly Straight Shampoo & conditioner, or the Smooth Start shampoo & conditioner, which ever I can get hold of most easily. For days when I have to get up super early, I used to leave the house at 6am on a Monday to get to the Black Country to teach, I will wash my hair with these products the night before & then plat it to eliminate the issue of frizz the next day.
Styling & Colour
When my hair is wet, I always like to apply either a hair serum, or a hair oil. I read that hair oils are more effective in either warmer or cooler weather, but I can’t remember which. If you know, please let me know in the comments! My go to hair serum is the John Frieda Frizz-Ease Extra Strength 6 Effects+ Serum, which is the strongest of the serums in the range & manages my frizz nicely. I also really like the Revlon Orofluido Asia Zen Control Elixir & the Goldwell Dualsenses Rich Repair Serum, though these are harder to get hold of & more expensive compared to buying John Frieda products in one of the offers Boots & Superdrug often have.
I haven’t found a styling product I’m 100% happy with, as the length & style of my hair has changed. You can read my thoughts on the Black & White Pluko Hair Dressing Pomade and the Umberto Giannini Curl Friends Jelly. I’ve also been liking the Trevor Sorbie Light Hold Curl Cream & the OGX Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Creme.
For hair dye, I have to be very careful. There was something in one of my Mum’s hair dyes that caused me to have a bad asthma attack even though I was on a different floor of the house to her. She changed her couch of dye & I’ve been very careful which products I try for fear of setting an asthma attack off again. I know it’s not ammonia though, as the dye I use & have been fine with for years has it in… So, my hair dye of choice is the John Frieda Precision Foam Colour in 6N Light Natural Brown. I used to use 5N, which was a great colour for me, but because I have to dye my hair every 3-4 weeks to hide the greys I ended up with almost black ends from over dying! I use the intensive conditioner that comes with the hair dye once per week as directed.
The John Frieda shapmpoos & conditioners are £5.99 each & the hair serum is £5.89, you can often find these in Boots & Superdrug on offer, either on a 3 for 2, or a 2 for £7.50 offer. The John Frieda Precision Foam Colour is £9.99, though you can often get it for 1/3 off or 1/2 price, so I’ve managed to never have to pay full price.
What are your go-to products in your haircare routine? So you have any recommendations for straight hair styling products? I could do with some now my hair has lost it’s curl.

I used to use the John Frieda Frizz-Ease serums years ago, but stopped using them in favour of trying new products and soon became obsessed with MoroccanOil. They were so effective and affordable though, so I’ll have to pick one up again!

Ooo… Thanks Alice! I’ll have to look into MoroccanOil. I tend to steer clear of it as one of them is nut based (I think its Macadamia) but I can never remember enough to be confident enough to make a purchase. Xx
