Hands up who else remembers non-uniform days? Yep, I thought so! I don’t know about you, but I often had such a hard time deciding what to wear! I really enjoyed non-uniform days, particularly jeans or genes day, as it took some of the stress of what to wear out of the equation! It’s funny to think that, all those years ago, I was taking part with no idea that I myself have a genetic condition hypermobile Ehlers-Dalos syndrome. Jeans For Genes day is fast approaching (Friday 21st September), so I thought I’d share with you the 2018 Jeans For Genes t-shirt!
All products marked with * have been gifted to me for consideration. More information can be found in my full disclaimer.
The 2018 Jeans For Genes t-shirt* was designed by Chunchen Liu, a Master’s student at Kingston School of Art. The image is a DNA double helix, constructed to appear like you’re looking at a pile of jeans – genius! (pun intended)
I love that this design used a variety of shades for denim. This means that the t-shirt works when paired with any shade of denim, as well as other materials. As well as wearing this t-shirt with denim (as shown), I’ve also paired it with a black skirt and black leggings – that combination really makes the Jeans For Genes t-shirt design stand out. Skirt or trousers, heels or flats, this t-shirt goes with almost everything!
Jeans For Genes is the brain child of Genetic Disorders UK, a charity focused on improving the lives of individuals and families affected by genetic disorders. The event raises money specifically to support children affected by one of the 6,000 or so genetic disorders. Did you know that approximately 1 in 25 children are affected by a genetic disorder!?
Remember that younger me who enjoyed her non-uniform days, with no idea that she herself had a genetic condition? Well, supporting Genetic Disorders UK could bring about earlier diagnosis and support for children like me. Buying a Jeans For Genes t-shirt is just one way of making a difference.
So far, I’ve not got anything in the diary for the 21st September, so it seems silly to wear my Jeans For Genes T-Shirt when no one’s going to see it. So instead, I’m planning on wearing it on the 20th, when I head down to London for my next course of Botox for my chronic migraine. I have two types of migraine – basilar type and hemiplegic. As complex migraine is a commonly found in those with hEDS, I feel this is quite fitting!
You can buy the Jeans For Genes t-shirt for £20 from jeansforgenesday.org. The t-shirts are available in cuts for males and females. Plus, if £20 is a little out of your price range, you can get one of the white campaign t-shirts for just £9! These are also available from jeansforgenesday.org.
Have you got your Jeans For Genes t-shirt yet? What are you doing on the 21st September?
