Maybelline Master Sculpt Contouring Palette Review

As a fairer skinned girl, I do struggle to find a contour shade that doesn’t pull too orange toned or muddy. I’ve already reviewed the MAC HARMONY BLUSHER, NYX TAUPE BLUSHER, NARS LAGUNA BRONZER & Makeup Store Eyeshadow in Masai, which all make great contour products for those with fair, yellow toned skin. I thought I would continue with a new release at the drugstore – the Maybelline Master Sculpt Contouring Palette.

To apply this I used my MAC 168 brush on my face & the Real Techniques Duo-Fibe Eye Brush for my nose. A am going to share with you my thoughts on different contour brushes in the future, but I find these two to be the most effective for the majority of contour products I’ve tried.

The Maybelline Master Sculpt Contouring Palette shade I chose 02 Medium Dark. I have previously always gone for the lightest shades but have found that most drugstore brands seem to make their ‘darker’ shades more cool toned, which is what I prefer. Despite my yellow toned skin, a cooler contour seems to suit me better! This might be because my skin is quite light, I’m not sure.

Both the contour & highlight shades apply easily. They are fairly sheer in pigmentation but can be built up easily to give more colour & definition. I like this as it makes it much harder to overdo & look too harsh or unnatural. I have been REALLY impressed with this product! The contour shade, while still warm toned is less so than many I’ve tried for the drugstore which makes it more flattering on my skin tone. I would describe 02 as a light neutral brown. The highlight is great for during the day as it is very subtle & though it looks like there are small shimmer particles in the pan, these don’t transfer as such on the face. I am going to try this as an under eye setting powder in the future. I like that the palette comes with a brush & mirror, which makes it ideal for travel. Although I wouldn’t use the brush at home it certainly isn’t bad & is definitely worth keeping for those occasions when you you have very little room in your suitcase!
