SpecsPost Review: The Easy Way To Choose Glasses

If you’re a glasses wearer, I’m sure you’ll understand the the frustrations of buying a pair of frames the traditional way; at an optician’s. Whether it’s not being able to see what you look like in the mirror because the glasses don’t have your prescription in (I’ve always wondered how on earth people manage this problem!), to not being able to remember what each of the pairs you’ve tried on looks like, SpecsPost have the solution for you! Want to know more? Keep reading my SpecsPost review for all the info you need & more!

SpecsPost are an online prescription glasses retailer, who provide you with the opportunity to try up to three pairs of frames at the same time in the comfort of your own home before you commit to a purchase! The home trial gives you 7 days to test out the frames you’ve chosen, before you post them back. They will even return the frames you choose with your specific prescription in! To take advantage of this, SpecsPost requires a 50% fully refundable deposit (but your first trial is free!). Overwhelmed by the choice of frames available? SpecsPost have you covered! They have put together 7 trial packages, ranging from £29.99-£55 (refundable deposit).

The benefits of this service are numerous. For those who can’t see what they look like without their prescription, you can take photos of yourself & study these with your current glasses on! I know you can do this at an optician’s, but there’s always that awkward feeling as if people are looking at you! This would also be a good idea for those who can never remember what they look like! Does anyone find that they can’t get a clear picture of how functional their new frames will be while they’re at the optician’s? Well, a home trial gives you the chance to cook, read & do all your daily activities while wearing your potential new frames, so you really get an idea of what how much of your vision the frames will allow your new lenses to give you. I know this won’t be ideal for those needing stronger prescriptions, but you might still be able to get an idea.

For me personally, this service has one very big advantage. I’ve worn precision tinted lenses for my migraineMears-Irlen Syndrome & dyslexia since I was 14. I’ve never been able to choose frames on the same day as I had my colorimetry test, because it would mess my brain up too much & I would have to go straight home & lie down before I fell over! When I have purchased new frames in the past, I had had to imagine what they would look like with a coloured lens in them. Sometimes this worked out, but other times not so much. With the home trial, I was able to take a photo of myself in the frames and then digitally add a colour to the lenses! It’s not an exact replication of what the frames would look like with my colour in, but it’s the closest gauge I could possible have as my colour changes so frequently that I will use the same frames for a number of different colours/shades.

I chose the Rita Ora Style Glasses* £24.99. They arrived within a couple of days, which I was really impressed with. The case they came in is roomy & very substantial which, though I don’t often use my glasses case because I’m almost always wearing them, I really liked. Initially, I found the frames to be quite loose, but I think it was just that they were a different style to what I’m used to as they didn’t slip down my nose once.

These are fantastic frames & I would never have guessed that they cost less than £25! I’ve only ever had one pair of glasses that cost less & they were purchased purely as a spare pair after a very stressful experience at school when a friend giving me a hug & snapped a pair I had only picked up that day! I was unable to go to school for a few days until a replacement had been made. It usually takes a 4-12 weeks for my lenses to be specially tinted, so I was lucky they were able to make the replacement so quickly! As I rely on my glasses so much, with them being one of the things that reduces my photosensitivity & risk of seizure, we couldn’t risk it happening again.

I love that SpecsPost have a large range of fashionable & stylish frames, something I’ve found hard to find in the past at optician’s & when I have I’ve been too nervous to buy them incase the coloured lenses looked silly! Not only do they have frames available for various prescriptions (as well as a non-prescription option which I got as I don’t have a prescription, just the tint), there is also the option for a variety of sun tints to be put on the lenses. In addition, SpecsPost have a sunglasses range, which you can have your prescription put into!

I would highly recommend checking SpecsPost out and will definitely be using them for future frame purchases!

  1. Wow! As a glasses wearer, these sound brilliant! I always feel so under pressure when I’m in the opticians to get the right pair. Plus, some look good on some days and not on others. It’s great to give them a go, to properly see how they look and feel xx
