Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool Review

Drying my hair has always been a difficulty. I struggle to use a hairdryer with my EDS, as the weight and motion causes pain in my wrists and hands. So my only option was to air dry my hair. This is very frustrating when you have to wash your hair every other day. It also means that I have to work out how I’m going to manage my hair when going out. Ideally I’ll wash it the day before and the day after, but this isn’t always possible. Because of the extra hassle not being able to dry my hair causes, I was really excited to try the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool *.

To give you some context to my thoughts on the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool, I have thick hair (in terms of the hair strands themselves) and lots of it. I also think it’s worth mentioning now that the more I think about this brush, the more I feel that it’s intended to be used with a hairdryer. The box states that there’s “no need to place the hairdryer nozzle onto the teeth.” This indicates to me that there is a need to use a hair dryer. I did say that I wasn’t able to use a hairdryer when I was contacted by the PR company. So my thoughts on the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool are based solely on using it alone.

When I leave my hair to dry naturally (during the winter) it takes 4-5 hours to be completely dry. This method leaves my hair a big frizzy mess. To get round the mass of frizz, I’ve been platting my hair. This keeps it smoother, but means that (during winter) some sections of my hair haven’t dried when I go to bed.

I was impressed with the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool when I first used it.The teeth of the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool are positioned to allow air to flow freely. The teeth have a specific tension and slight flexibility. These have been designed to dry hair quickly. With a few strokes, it took away the excess water that towel drying my hair had missed. I tend to find with a standard brush I get a bit of a soggy back, where my hair has dropped a little. But this wasn’t the case with the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool. I also found it easy to hold, though my shoulders and wrists didn’t allow me to brush my hair continually until it was dry. So I had to include rest breaks. 

I wanted to see the comparison between the performance of the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool and a standard Tangle Teezer. You can check out my Tangle Teezer The Original Review for more information on this. I used the Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool on one side of my head and the standard Tangle Teezer on the other. I brushed my hair for ten minutes (with breaks) using both brushes simultaneously. While my hair had sections on both sides that were dry, the main body of my hair was still damp. I didn’t notice a significant difference between the side I used the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool and the side I used my Original Tangle Teezer. 

While using the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool, I managed to catch one of my earrings and pull it out. This was because I wasn’t used to the longer bristles of the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool. You know that feeling when you get a haircut but keep brushing for your old length until you adapt? It’s pretty much the same thing. I know I’ll adapt to the length of the bristles. In the mean time I just need to be careful of my earrings.

I think the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool is lovely to use. I’ve long been a fan of the Tangle Teezer Original and this brush is just as good. I found the Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool better at getting initial excess water out of my hair than the original. Other than that I didn’t see much difference. I suspect this is because my hair is so thick. But as I’ve said above, it’s possible I wasn’t able to use the brush as intended. 

I think the Tangle Teezer Blow-Styling Smoothing Tool would suit those who swim or go to the gym a lot, as it gets rid of excess water from the hair well. Dan and I love swimming when we go to Center Parcs. So I’ll definitely be packing this brush when we next go. It’s also a great option if you love the brush of a Tangle Teezer, but prefer a handle to hold.
