Tiger Makeup Tutorial

I headed to the Udderbelly Festival to see Closer By Circa for my sister’s hen do & we decided to dress up in circus themed costume. I decided to go as a tiger, inspired by Pixi Lott’s tiger costume. So today, I have a tiger makeup tutorial post for you & you can check out my tiger costume post if you want to see the complete look. In preparation for my tiger makeup, I created a Tiger Costume Pinterest board for inspiration. One of the pins on the board is a YouTube video by Laura Lee, which I used as my main set of instructions.

I split the application of my tiger makeup into two parts. The cat’s face & the tiger strips. The products I used are as follows:

Orange face paint, I used the Makeup FX orange

Eyeliner, I used the Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, the 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Zero &, because I ran out of my UD pencil, the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Black which I picked up on route to London

An eye brow product, I used the Soap & Glory Brow Archery in Brownie Points & set this with the MUA Clear Mascara

Mascara, I used the Rituals Volume mascara

Something white, I used the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Infinite White

Black lipstick, I used the Makeup Revolution Amazing Lipstick in 100% Vamp. Annoyingly, this isn’t black. I think it may have been mislabeled when I bought it, or the label was small. I meant to pick up Black Heart, but I made it work.

The Cat’s Face

I followed Laura’s tutorial, referring back to my pins on Pinterest to make it my own interpretation.

For the eyes, I started with my brows. These I did as normal & then brought them closer together & drew a line down towards my nose to give a more cat like shape.

Next I did my winged eyeliner. I used tape to give me a good guide & winged out the flick much further than I normally would to give a dramatic look. I took the line down to a point in the inner corner of the eye to enhance the cat eye shape. I then took the Urban Decay pencil eyeliner under my lower lash line.

I placed some of the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in the inner corners of my eyes & onto the first 1/4 of my lid.

I then added two coats of mascara to my upper lashes & left my lower lashes natural.

For the face, I started by applying the Maybelline Colour Tattoo to my upper lip.

I then traced round the bottom of my nose with the Urban Decay liquid liner, filled this in & drew two lines from my nose to my cupid’s bow & filled this in.

The lipstick proved not to be black, which was annoying. So I decided to use the Urban Decay pencil liner to line & fill in my lips & top this with the Makeup Revolution lipstick.

Next, I put a few dots on my upper lip & drew on whiskers, making sure to alternate their length to make them look more realistic.

The Tiger Stripes

The tiger stripes were pretty straightforward. They look a lot more complex than they are. I used a damp beauty blender to apply the orange face paint around the sides of my face, down my neck & onto my chest. Then I took it down the outside of my arms & legs. This doesn’t need to be applied all over the body, just to some areas to give the idea of tiger stripes. So if you’re recreating this, be artistic in your placement of your orange face paint. On the orange face paint, I drew black lines of different shapes & lengths & filled them in. I used the Urban Decay liquid eyeliner for my face, neck & chest (you’ll need to use a mirror for these). As my liquid liner began to run low & it was taking a very long time to fill the lines in, I switched to pencil liner for my arms & legs. I don’t think the tiger stripes turned out as well with pencil, but I was surprised at how quick & easy they were to do. I’d definitely go for this option again.

To complete the cat’s face, all the orange face pain & the black stripes on my face & neck took me 2 hours. My sister finished the stripes on my chest while we were travelling to London & I did my arms & legs (with the help of my niece) on the journey too. So if you’re planning to recreate this, make sure you give yourself plenty of time & make sure you have lots of black eyeliner available to you!

I loved wearing this tiger makeup. I’m so pleased with how it turned out, especially as I’d not had the energy to practice it in the weeks leading up the the hen do.
