Drugstore Red Lipsticks For All Skin Tones

In makeup terms, nothing says Christmas like a red lip! So for my first Blogmas post, I’m going to share with you my pick of the drugstore red lipsticks. Below you’ll find shade suggestions for specific skin tone, as well as recommendations for other shades of red. Generally people with yellow undertones suit warmer shades and people with pink undertones suit cooler tones. Please use this as a guide only, as it really is about what suits you and what you feel comfortable wearing. I’ve tried to pick a range of formulas so you can be sure your lips will look just right over the festive season.

Revlon Creme Lipstick in 730, Revlon Red

This lipstick is a perfect neutral option that would suit all skin tones. It has been called a dupe for MAC Ruby Woo (check this) & is a great budget alternative. I love the formula of Revlon’s Creme lipsticks as they are comfortable to wear and have good pigmentation. If you prefer a warmer toned red, their creme lipstick in ‘Fire and Ice’ is a beautiful option.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 510, Mayfair Red Lady

As the name suggests, these lipsticks are moisturising, which is great for someone like me who has dry lips, particularly in the colder months. The draw back of this is that the formula moves around more easily. So this is definitely one to use with a lipliner. If you have pink undertones to your skin and prefer a darker, cooler toned shade, ‘Diva Red’ is a good choice. ‘In Love With Ginger’ is a great orangy red for those who prefer a much lighter, warmer shade.

L’Oreal Glam Shine Stain Splash in 200, Princess

If you’re after a long lasting formula that doesn’t budge, a liquid lipstick is the perfect option! These are probably the most comfortable liquid lipstick formula I’ve tried, leaving my lips feeling soft. ‘Princess’ is a lovely warm toned red that would be perfect for those with yellow undertones to their skin. If you like the formula of the Glam Shine Stain Splashes but prefer a cooler, darker tone of red ‘Juliet’ is a great alternative.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in 01, Personne Ne Rouge!

Though the shade selection is small, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks offer fantastic pigmentation and great lasting power. These are comfortable to wear and don’t dry your lips out. If you prefer a glossy finish but still want something long lasting, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque Liquid Lipstick in 05, ‘Red My Lips’ would be worth considering, though I can’t personally recommend them as they contain citric acid so I’m unable to try them because of my allergies.

No.7 High Shine Lip Crayon in Statement

If you’re looking for an every day option but still want a festive feel, the No.7 High Shine Lip Crayon in Statement is perfect! With a sheerer formula than most lipsticks the colour is more subtle, which is ideal if you don’t want to look too made up. The formula is moisturising and comfortable, while the crayon applicator makes it easy to reapply on the go. If you want to try out a bolder lip shade, these lip crayons are a great introduction to colour. The less pigmented colour allows you to get used to what a different shade looks like on yourself without being too drastic. You can then go bolder if you wish, or stick to a sheer colour.

There are so many options when it comes to drugstore red lipsticks that there really is something for everyone. These are the shades I feel would suit all skin tones, as they are neutral in tone.
