My Favourite MAC Products

I love reading about people’s favourite products from particular brands, as they really highlight the best of the best & can be a great starting point if you haven’t much experience with a brand. So I thought I would start a little series sharing my favourite products from both drugstore & high end brands. This will probably be a once-a-month kinda deal, but we’ll see how we go. I’m not going to set a particular number of products to include, as I don’t want to include products that are only so-so to make up numbers or exclude products that are amazing because a brand is just that good that they make so many amazing things! I’m also going to add a little wish list at the end, so you know which products I’ve got my eyes on. Please be aware that some products won’t be included because I am allergic to the ingredients in them (for example, MAC lipsticks). I thought I’d start with a particularly popular brand, so keep reading if you want to know what my favourite MAC products are!

Mineralize Skinfinish Natural £24

This is my go-to base on a day to day basis. I use this with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush to give me just the right amount of coverage, as I don’t need a lot. It provides a light, matte finish without looking flat or caked on. I also love the compact, the mirror that has been added in the recent packaging update is also super helpful for applying on the go or if you’re travelling & have limited hand luggage space. My shade is in Light Plus, which is perfect for my light, yellow toned skin.

Mineralize Skinfinish £24

As well as their Natural MSFs, MAC also have a highlighting range of MSFs. I love these! Particularly the shades Lightscapade & Soft & Gentle. I got Soft & Gently first as a gift from a friend. Initially, I found it WAY too sparkly. I’ve since gotten much more into highlighters & don’t find it to be too sparkly now. I do tend to save it for use when I want to look more made up – definitely not one for natural makeup days! Lightscapade however, is a beautiful, natural highlighter. This is the perfect product is you want a light, glow without looking made up. MAC have changed the packaging of the highlighter version of the MSFs too, which I have to say I’m not so keen on. Not the packaging itself mind you, I just don’t like that I now have a mix of old & new packaging. The precise, everything-has-to-be-just-so part of me really doesn’t like this. Silly I know!

IN EXTRA DIMENSION SKINFINISH

Can you tell I’m a little obsessed with MAC’s skinfinish range? The In Extra Dimension Skinfinish is a limited edition formula, so not something you can get all the time. They are however, well worth keeping your eyes peeled for. The formula is a liquid to powder, which feels soft & gives a stunning, high impact definition to the face. I have these in Definitely Defined & Shape The Future, which can be used to highlight & contour the face, as well as Aphrodite’s Shell, the bronzer from the Alluring Aquatics collection.

Powder Blush £18.50

I do love a good blusher & MAC have a huge range of shades & finishes available. From matte, to satin, frost, sheertone & sheertone shimmer, there really is a finish for everyone! Not just that, but there are so many shades to choose from too. It’s not surprising that I own a number of these. It’s well worth checking out the limited edition shades when they come out (as with everything) because if you miss one you’ll kick yourself afterwards! Some of my favourites from the permanent line are Style, Well Dressed, Peachykeen, Melba, Pinch Me & Blushbaby.

Mineralized Blush £22

I only have one of these, Warm Soul, but it’s absolutely stunning! It combines the quality & beauty of the powder blushes with the MSF highlighters. They give your skin a beautiful glow without being overly shimmery. The only thing I would wish for with these would be that the there was a wides shade range available!

168 Brush £28

Made from goat hair, the 168 is a large angled contour brush. I have two of these & use them for contour, highlighter & blusher. They’re great multi-purpose brushes & the cheek brush I reach for the most. The hair is super soft, picks up product nicely & distributes it evenly.

217 Brush £20

The 217 brush is a great blending brush, made from goat hair. This brush is perfect for applying shadow to the crease of the eye & outer ‘V’. It fits my eye shape shape perfectly. When I apply my crease shadow I use this brush horizontally so that I get a smaller amount of colour in the inner part of my crease & more colour around the outer ‘V’ (I hope that explanation made sense). This brush is also really good for applying a wash of shadow to the lid. I love this brush so much that I have two of these too!

239 Brush £21

Made from goat hair, the 239 eye shader brush (of which I have two), is my preferred brush for applying shadow to the eyelid. It picks up a good amount of product for a more intense payoff & gives a more precise application than some of the fluffier brushes. I also own two of these!

PRODUCTS I’D LIKE TO TRY

263 small angle brush (as long as it isn’t made from horse hair, as I have an anaphylactic reaction to horses!)

An eye shadow from the mineralize range

A single shadow (the only shadows I have from MAC are in the Cinderella palette & I’m not impressed with the quality so would like to try a single to see if it’s just this palette that’s a let down)

Although they haven’t made it into my top products, I would like to pick up a few more Lipglasses. I think the reason I don’t use & love them more is that I’ve gotten shades that aren’t my go-to colours.

Of cause I want to pick up more blushes, especially the mineralised ones, & more of the highlight skinfinishes!
