Styling A Mela White Floral Dress

Switching up my Instagram theme was the best decision I’ve made for my blog recently. I’m now able to share a lot more photos, without having to think about whether they’ve got white in them or not. This has been fantastic for inspiring me to create more fashion content for you all. Starting with this Mela White Floral Dress from New Look.

At the end of my pregnancy, I was trying to figure out how I’d get over to my parent’s house (two doors down) with camera, tripod, wheelchair, and baby. Just getting to their front door would’ve been a mission, then I’d have to get out into the garden and put baby down somewhere safe and close by so I can keep an eye on them. That was never going to happen!

Now that I’ve mixed my theme up a bit, I can go back to using our garden for my outfit photos, with Elise safely in the kitchen (in fill view from the garden) in her bouncy chair. Yay for fashion posts!

If you’ve read my what is next for my wardrobe? post, you’ll know that my body has changed quite a lot in the past few years and, as a result, I’m in need of some new clothes. In some ways, I want to stay well within my comfort zone when buying new pieces for my wardrobe. But in others, I want to push my boundaries and try something new. This Mela White Floral Dress from New Look ticked both those boxes for me.

Dresses have been a go-to for me, particularly skater styles. They cover my tummy and thighs in a flattering manner. They’re also quick and easy – one piece that you don’t have to find something to go with it like you would a skirt. I also gravitate towards patterns and designs that aren’t close together and am a fan of florals.

However, I don’t opt for red very often. If you’ve read my Long Grey Chunky Knit Cardigan post, you’ll know this is something I’m trying to change. I think it’ll be a slow transition, with me introducing little bits of red at a time. This Mela White Floral Dress has just the right amount of red for me. Not too much that it makes my face look blotchy, but enough that it’s a feature of the dress.

You know what else is great about this dress? IT’S GOT POCKETS!

The material of the Mela White Floral Dress is slightly thicker than I was expecting. It’s made from 95% polyester and 5% elasthine. So it might not be the ideal option for the height of summer. But, I’ll definitely be getting a lot of wear out of it in the autumn – it would look fab with a pair of black leggings, brown boots and a black cardigan or jacket!

Here, I’ve teamed my Mela White Floral Dress with a pair of brown Mantaray block heel sandals from Debenhams. They also have these in a nude shade. I love the stud detail. It’s subtle, but adds a little extra something.

I love how I can have the skirt flowing over my wheels when I’m stationary. To me, this looks so pretty. I can also tuck the fabric between my thighs and the side guards of my wheelchair, so the skirt doesn’t get in the way of my wheels.

When carrying Elise, I like to use my cream Yaro wrap in a size 7. I love the look of the longer tails that I get with this wrap. I have a black size 4.5 on order from Calin Bleu, which will also look fab with this dress.
