I never used to like strapless clothes. When I was 7 stone and a size 6, I felt like my collar bone stuck out dreadfully and I was really self conscious of this. Despite putting on weight, this body hang up stuck with me. Having put on such a lot of weight and then loosing most of it, I’m now in a much better place with my body confidence. So when I spotted this navy floral skater dress from New Look, I fell in love.
The straps on this navy floral skater dress are detachable. If I’m honest, when I bought it I didn’t expect to wear it as a strapless dress. But actually, both times I’ve worn this dress have been without the straps.
I love skater style dresses. It’s a really flattering style for my figure, particularly as my hips have always been one of the larger parts of my body. I say this, but since my medication weight loss I’ve accepted my thighs and am actually quite happy with them. I’d never felt comfortable in the shorts featured in my JORD Watch post before my weight loss, even when I was slimmer than I am now! As well as being flattering on my hips, the style of my navy floral skater dress is flattering for those who have a less-than-flat stomach.
I’ve paired my navy floral skater dress with a pink biker jacket, also from New Look. I was getting so much wear out of my black faux leather jacket that I thought the investment in a coloured option was worth it. I love how the pink brings out the colours in the floral pattern.
To compliment my navy floral skater dress, I picked a simple necklace. This was so as not to create too much of a contrast with the patterned of the dress. Here, I’ve opted for the Sterling Silver Infinity Necklace from Jewellery Box, which costs £9.65.
And this is yet another outfit post featuring my New Look wedges and Next bag. I just love the colour of them for summer!

I love this dress!! It goes so well with the shoes too! I have to find something similar. I like strapless dresses for casual wear or the ones I had for homecoming dances and prom, but for my wedding I was very adamant about not wearing a strapless dress. In fact, I wanted something with long sleeves (but ended up getting a dress with the bateau neckline). I felt like my boobs were too big for a strapless dress and I didn’t want to show cleavage, and I will be honest: strapless wedding dresses are pretty much overdone. All of my cousins and family had strapless dresses, along with almost everyone you see in wedding photos! I wanted something more unique!

Thank you so much! I was the same with my wedding dress. I was so disappointed with the lack of choice in the bridal department when it came to options with straps. One shop didn’t have a single non-strapless dress! They tried to convince me to add a bolero, but I didn’t want that. I wanted straps. When I eventually found my dress, I was thrilled with it. But I was surprised by how hard it was to come by. It’s so important that we stay true to ourselves and what we want, particularly on our wedding day. I’m so glad you were able to find the perfect dress too. Xx
