Last week, Dan and I were incredibly lucky to go on holiday. The reason for this lovely treat was that Dan is a ‘foodie’. His parents had previously stayed in the hotel and were so impressed buy the restaurant they thought we should go. The restaurant was an exceptionally high quality fine dining experience. Clearly I couldn’t go to dinner in my day clothes, so I thought I would share with you my evening outfits, starting with my blue shift dress.
This blue shift dress is from the Gok Wan for Tu (Sainsbury’s range) and was bought a few years ago when I was a couple of sizes bigger. However, I found it to be a comfortable and flattering option when sitting in my wheelchair. It’s roomy round my waist, which is ideal both when sitting in a wheelchair and when eating! I’m not usually someone who goes for animal print, but I really like the effect against the vibrant blue shade.
For modesty, I wore a pair of tights with my blue shift dress. As I now have my wheelchair back (though not fully functioning as one of the breaks hasn’t been put back on right), I was able to wear heels! The foot plate of my wheelchair is at such an angle that my feet don’t rest on it flat. As a result, my ankles wobble around, but with the right heel height, my feet and ankles are supported. Saying that, these are too high for me and I did experience ankle pain. I’m finding out what works as I go along. I love these black Mary-Janes. Although they hurt my ankles, I’m sure I’ll wear them again when I’m using my wheelchair.
So as not to get cold, I added a black blazer over my blue shift dress. This one is from New Look and I love the cut of it. It’s very flattering. This was the jacket I meant to wear with my Red Heart Dress, but I couldn’t find it, so ended up with a straight cut jacket instead.
Normally I use bags that I can attach to myself. Otherwise they fall off my lap. As I was only going to be travelling from my room to the restaurant (on the same floor in the same building), I decided a clutch was the perfect option. This bag, which I got from Dorothy Perkins a while ago, is actually a cross body bag, with the strap tucked in. The perfect option, as I didn’t know when I packed how far or what type of terrain I’d be wheeling on.

I’d certainly be interested in more of your tips on wearing dresses in wheelchairs, even for myself there are certain dresses I own i can ‘only’ wear with tights and others ‘only’ if I’m standing etc.
