Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky Woven Wrap Review

Something I’ve been working on is being more conscious about the brands I choose to use and buy from. When deciding between products of a similar quality and cost that are made by different brands, a company’s ethos can significantly impact my choice of who to buy from. I’m not perfect by any stretch of the imagination – I often rarely have time to compare products, much less research their manufacturing processes, philanthropic ventures and history. But, I’m trying. Which is why I’m so excited to share this review of the Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky woven wrap in size 3*.

Sycha Slings is a UK based woven wrap brand. The creation of fellow EDSer, Sally Sycha from Sling Sally, Sycha Slings aim is to make babywearing accessible to as many people as possible while supporting UK industry. With these two goals in mind, Sally has produced two lines within Sycha Slings; Main and Studio.

Produced in Turkey to facilitate a lower price point, Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky is part of the Sycha Sling’s Main line wraps (wraps from the studio line are produced in the UK). A 100% organic cotton woven wrap with a weight of 235gms (grams per square metre), Sycha Slings wraps are designed with two distinct colours, making them easier for beginners to learn to wrap with.

Philanthropist Sally, donates 5% of the price of each woven wrap purchased to charity. In the case of Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky woven wrap and ring slings, the donation goes to PoTS UK. Sally and I both have PoTS and both found that pregnancy exacerbated our symptoms, so I feel a strong affinity to this wrap and the charity it supports.

Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky is a teal and green wrap. It’s design consists of dragonfly over leafy foliage. This is a great design for beginners, as it makes the top, middle and bottom rails visible. The top rail is depicted by small dragonflies, the middle rail by larger dragon flies and the bottom buy leaves.

Thin, yet supportive, I found Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky woven wrap to be easily broken in with just a few uses – another reason why this wrap is such a great choice for a beginner.

With it’s lightweight, thin and almost cool-to-the-touch qualities, this wrap has been an ideal choice for wrapping in the summer months. It glides smoothly, making it a great option for multiple layered carries. Because of the aspects, I found that strand-by-strand tightening Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky woven wrap required minimal effort to tighten. This is something that’s really important for me, as I’ve found that some wraps (usually thicker ones or ones with a lot of grip to them) can be difficult to tighten with my hEDS and can result in injury and/or increased pain.

Initially, I found it difficult to get Elise onto my back with Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky woven wrap. My method-of-choice for getting her onto my back is a hip scoot from a traditional sling carry with a half knot. The amount of glide didn’t hold the knot well and, while I managed to get Elise onto my back, it was rather haphazard! However, it’s worth noting that this was with a wrap not yet broken in. It was also the first time of me using this wrap, having been used to something with a little more grip. Subsequent back carrying attempts were much more successful, as the wrap broke in and I knew the qualities I was working with.

I have thoroughly enjoyed using this Sycha Slings Prehistoric Spring Sky woven wrap. As it’s such a great beginner wrap and very affordable, it will be making it’s way into stock for the Nuneaton Sling Library, so I can share the love of Sysha Slings with my local community and support Sally and her fantastic business. While it’ll be part of my library stock, I’m sure you won’t be surprised that I’ll be pulling it out for my own use on a regular basis too.
