Tom Ford Brow Sculptor Review

I picked up the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor in Taupe a number of years ago after hearing it raved about for quite a while by a number of well known YouTubers, including Tanya Burr. I’m sure either Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup or Lily Pebbles (or both) also loved this at one point, but I can’t find posts or videos about it. I’d been having real difficulty finding a bow product that I was happy with the shade of. Everything was too dark or too warm toned. There was nothing I felt complimented my hair tone.

I was ‘on tour’ with Dan in Edinburgh when he was depping (kind of like the musical version of an understudy) for a friend on the musical South Pacific. Dan was doing two shows a day for a week & I was staying with him in the Travel Lodge & amusing myself in Edinburgh during the days. As you can probably imagine, the majority of this ‘amusement’ time was spent perusing the shops! One of the stores (Harvey Nichols maybe?), had a Tom Ford counter & I couldn’t resist checking it out as, at the time, the Birmingham Selfridges didn’t have a counter. I was really sad to find out that I’m allergic to one of the ingredients in their lipsticks, so instead I decided to try the brow sculptor as I’d heard so many good things about it!

The artist on counter was really helpful. There are 4 shades in the range & she told me that Taupe or Chestnut would be a good match for me. I was concerned that Chestnut would be the very warm brown shade that I was trying to move away from as it sticks out like a are thumb on me. So instead after having it applied on counter, I plumped for Taupe, which is the shade both Tanya Burr (& Anna & Lily?) use. I used it for most of the trip & really enjoyed it, but towards the end I became unsure about the shade – I’m such a fuss pot! A few months after buying the brow perfector & I’d stopped using it completely. I really wasn’t convinced on the shade. I was also really disappointed, having spend £35 on it only to not be convinced! I kept trying the Brow Sculptor on & off for the next year or so, but never used it more than once a month.

Then I started dying my hair, which made my hair darker & darker & darker until it looked black in certain light! Since realising this, I’ve changed my hair dye from the John Frieda Precision Foam Dye in 5N to 6N & am much happier with the colour of my hair. I’ve pulled out the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor again to try to get some use out of it. I decided to try it with the Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara, which I didn’t get on with on it’s own as it doesn’t add anything to my sparce brows that really need to be filled in! I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the combination of the lighter hair dye, the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor & the Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara. The Brow Drama adds an extra dimension to the brows & counteracts some of the warmer tones in the Taupe Brow Sculptor. The only problem I have with this combination is that the body of my right eyebrow is lower than my left. To counteract this, I need to draw in the top of my right eyebrow. The Taupe Brow Sculptor doesn’t do this as naturally as some of the other brow products I’ve used before, like the NARS Brow Perfector, the Soap & Glory Brow Archery & the Sigma Brow Powder. Instead, the drawn on part of my right eyebrow looks lighter & warmed than the areas that have born hairs. So this product is really only effective on areas where you do have some brow hairs.

The product itself is nice. It stays all day, is easy to apply & removes easily with makeup remover. I really like that it comes with a spoolie on one end as this is really handy & perfect for travelling! You can remove the spoolie from the end of the pencil to reveal a sharpener for the product. I started off using this, but was disappointed in the amount of product that was being wasted by the sharpener, which is something worth considering if you’re thinking of buying it. If I’m going to be spending £35 on a brow product, you’d better believe that I want to be able to use every last scrap of product & not end up throwing three or four shavings away each time I want to sharpen it. I also found that the Sculptor didn’t stay sharp for long, so in the end I just gave up sharpening it!

All in all, I’m happy that I’m now enjoying this product more & getting some good use out of it. I’ll definitely be using it up, in conjunction with the Maybelline Brow Drama Mascara. I won’t be repurchasing it, especially at £35! However, if you’re in the market for a high end brow product & there is a shade that suits you, I would definitely suggest considering this one (as long as you don’t intend on sharpening the pencil!).
