Ali Dover Moment Woven Wrap Review

I have to admit that when I first saw the Ali Dover Stripe line, I wasn’t wowed by them. If I’m being completely honest, I was totally uninspired by them. That was, until my cousin lent me a couple of her wraps to try – one Didymos Prima, the other an Ali Dover Moment from the Stripe line. These are two of my cousin’s favourite wrap brands and, having tried them, I can see why!

Ali Dover Moment is very much my cousin’s colour palette – seven stripes made up of khaki, olive, grey and cream shades. Because my precision tinted lenses are a combination of various blues and greens, I tend to avoid most blue and green shades as they usually clash with my glasses. Glow, Studio 2, Spirit and Heathers from the Stripe line are much more ‘me’ colours. Particularly Glow with it’s cream, red, burgundy and yellow shades.

Striped woven wraps are often recommended to beginners because it makes it easier to learn how strand-by-strand tightening works. Strand-by-strand tightening is the process of getting the slack out of the length of wrap, a section at a time. When the sections are different colours, as with Ali Dover Moment, it’s much easier to see where there’s slack in the wrap and which parts to tighten to work it out. Having different coloured sections in a wrap also helps you see what you’re doing in carries that require flipped or hammock passes. If you look closely at the capped shoulders of my wrap job in these photos, you’ll be able see the flip I’ve made for my front double hammock.

Ali Dover Moment was the first wrap I’ve tried with blunt tapers. This means that each end of the wrap is squared off. Moment is a perfect rectangle, where as most wraps are rhomboid in shape – they have slanted ends. I wish I’d taken a photo of Moment’s tapers (or lack of), but I didn’t think of it at the time.

I loved the light, supportive and extremely soft feel of Ali Dover Moment. This 100% cotton wrap is pliable. It’s soft enough for newborns and I feel it would be strong enough for toddlers – it certainly stood up well against Lissie’s wriggling antics in a carry that I’m not completely confident in yet!

This wrap is on the wider side, at 70cm. Extra width isn’t for everyone. It’s not necessarily ideal for beginners with a newborn. Working with extra fabric and a teeny tiny baby as a beginner isn’t going to be as easy as a narrower wrap. However, I wouldn’t say that I’m an expert wrapper by any stretch of the imagination and Elise is only 10 month old. It’s also worth considering that having a wider wrap for a newborn gives you a little extra fabric as they grow. So you’re more likely to find that it works for you throughout your carrying journey.

Now, I’ve said above that I wasn’t wowed by the strip design. However, when I saw these photos, my mind was instantly changed!

When I see these photos, I immediately see a timeless, classic wrap. The stripe design of Ali Dover Moment would work perfectly for any occasion and compliment a number of different outfits. Jeans and t-shirt for a fulfilled family day out? Ideal! A patterned dress for a wedding? Perfect!
