If you’ve read my Firespiral Bifrost Starmap review post, you’ll know that initially, the brand’s nature inspired designs just didn’t speak to me visually. Then, I came across the Starmap design and fell in love, which prompted me to look more closely at the designs, colourways and blends of Firespiral wraps. At this point, I discovered the Seafoam design. I’m lucky to have been given the chance by Firespiral and It’s A Sling Thing to try out the newest wrap in the Seafoam line, Firespiral Dryad Sunset Seafoam!

Some of you may know that I’m originally from Essex. Southend-on-Sea to be more precise (but not very precise because that would be giving too much away!). I grew up not far from the seaside and have very, very happy memories of summers spent having picnics overlooking the sea, days out at Adventure Island (a theme park on the seafront), watching the airshow on the seafront, eating ice-cream at the Rossi shop (an ice-cream shop on the seafront) and so, so many more!
I no longer live by the sea. If I’m honest, this does make me a little sad. It’s been a part of so many of my childhood memories and feels like part of mine, and as a result, Elise’s, heritage. As a result, the Firespiral’s Seafoam design has become extremely important and sentimental to me.
While there’s a lot of sentiment for me all wrapped up in Firespiral’s Seafoam design, I’ve also found it to be one that’s very versatile with my outfits. I’m not a fan of lots of patterns, particularly clashing ones. I find them visually overwhelming – not surprising, given that I have a visual processing disorder (mears-Irlen syndrome) and I’m photosensitive.
A large number of wraps are patterned, but quite a few of my clothes are patterned. When I first started using woven wraps, I found it difficult to create interesting outfits that work with and without a baby wrapped to my front. I’ve spoken about this in my Calin Bleu review. But, this all changed when my first Seafoam arrived, as the subtle, beautiful image of crashing waves compliments, rather than overpowering (and clashing with) a patterned item of clothing. Ok, so now I’ve spent possibly too much time talking about what the Seafoam design means to me, it’s about time that I share my thoughts on the beautiful Firespiral Dryad Sunset Seafoam wrap!
This wrap is made up of 56% cotton, 18% viscose, 16% hemp and 10% linen, making this quad blend soft and strong, with a little bounce – perfect for newborns and toddlers alike! I was thrilled to see that this quad blend doesn’t include wool, as so many of them do. This is great for those of us who have (or who’s wrapees have) allergies or other sensitivities to wool.
Firespiral Dryad Sunset Seafoam is an Alchemy weave wrap, which is Firespiral’s loser weave structure. This helps to give the wrap it’s legendary soft, flexible Fispi feel. However, it also makes it prone to pulls. These are easily repaired and Jen and Tamsin have information on how to do this in their woven wrap mending and maintenance post. However, I know not everyone will feel comfortable doing this, so I thought it was important to mention.
Now, I’ve already said that I think Firespiral Dryad Sunset Seafoam would work well as a newborn and toddler wrap. If I were to use it with a newborn, I’d opt to have majority of the Sunset warp on the inside (so the waves wold be pink on the outside. This is because Sunset is make up of beautifully soft Fispi cotton, which is extremely snuggly for newborn babies.
I’ve wrapped Elise on both my front and back a number of times using this wrap. I’ve found it to be extremely comfortable and cushy on my delicate, injury prone shoulders (oh the joys of hEDS!). Especially in back carries.
Firespiral Dryad Sunset Seafoam is the first release with the Sunset colourway, which starts with lavender and transforms, through a warm pink, to a bright raspberry red shade. Previously, I’ve found that lines created when colours transition in a wrap can be problematic with my photosensitivity if the colours contrast. This isn’t the case with the Sunset colourway – the shades transition beautifully and, most importantly for me, subtly.
The other element to this wrap is the Dryad weft – a thicker, slubby viscose linen blend that’s a beautiful off white shade. I love how the yarn in this weft isn’t uniform in size. This aspect gives fantastic texture, grip and a lovely rustic look to the wrap. To me, this perfectly sums up Firespiral as a brand, and the seaside town I grew up in.
As if it couldn’t get any better, Firespiral Dryad Sunset Seafoam is machine washable and suitable to go in the tumble dryer! So it would make a great every day, easy care, option! The GSM of this wrap is still currently being determined, but it’s on the thicker side of the medium weight range. So I’d expect it to come in around the 270-290 mark.
Due for release via firespiralslings.co.uk on the 18th Feb, Firespiral Dryad Sunset Seafoam is one that’s not to be missed. If pink isn’t your colour, never fear! Dryad Cyano Seafoam is set to be released this year too, so you can have the same blend and wrap qualities in a blue/green shade!
