When I first started looking into different woven wrap brands, I have to admit that the designs of Firespiral wraps didn’t grab me. I’m not really an outdoorsy person and am not particularly into nature. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the beauty of nature, but it’s not something I’m particularly passionate about. That was, until It’s A Sling Thing sent me their Firespiral Verdant Cyano Birch Trees wrap to try. I fell in love with it and started exploring the brand and their designs a little more. The first Firespiral design I fell in love with the look of was Starmap. So I’m really excited to be able to share the brand’s newest release in the Stamap range with you, Firespiral Bifrost Starmap.
Created and run by the lovely Jen and Tamsin, Firespiral have three different weave types for their wraps: Alchemy, Elements and Synergy. For those not familiar with the brand, Alchemy is a loose weave, which makes the wraps incredibly soft and mouldable. Elements is a tighter weave, making these wraps strong, durable and much less prone to pulled threads. I’ve tried a few Alchemy and Elements weaved wraps now and like both for different purposes. However, I hadn’t tried a Synergy weave until Firespiral Bifrost Starmap arrived on our doorstep. Firespiral’s Synergy weave is made up of three parts (compared with the Alchemy and Elements’ two parts), adding an extra layer and thickness to the wrap.

I’ve loved learning more about Firespiral as a brand. The materials for each of their wraps have been ethically and locally sourced and I’ve come to appreciate and love their nature based designs. Their Seafoam wraps remind me of my childhood and growing up by the seaside! What’s more, Firespiral wraps come with their own dust bag and a Firespiral design pin badge. So when your wrapping days are over, you can keep the badge as a momentum! It’s details like these, that really make Firespiral as a brand stand out to me. Plus, Jen and Tamsin are both genuinely wonderful and talented people!
The colours of Firespiral Bifrost Starmap are absolutely stunning! The deep, dark background (which I believe is Twilight) gives off different tones, depending on the lighting and angle. I LOVE wraps that do this! I’ve seen a deep royal blue, dark sapphire and everything in between from this wrap. It’s a chameleon of a wrap! This chameleon blue pairs beautifully with the bright rainbow shades that make up the Bifrost element of the wrap.
When using this wrap, I got so many compliments from strangers and friends alike. It’s definitely the general public’s favourite visually of all the wraps I’ve tried. I love the Starmap design – it’s one that really appeals to me visually. With Bifrost Starmap, I have a strong preference for the side with the navy background and rainbow stars. With my photosensitivity, I find the lines which create the transition between the colours difficult. However, this is something that very few wrappers would be affected by. However, most of Jen and Tamsin’s designs and colourways are a lot easier for me than many other woven wrap brands, since they’re more pictorial rather than patterned.
We were sent a long 6 (measuring 4.95 meters) to try. As my base is a size 5 (4.2 meters), I was able to try a Front Reinforced Traditional Sling Carry with Pond Finish (a base +1 carry). This is my go-to way of tying when I’m using a longer wrap. I love how it looks with the Firespiral Bifrost Starmap.
There’s no official word on the gsm (weight) of Firespiral Bifrost Starmap yet, but I’ve heard from a reliable source that it’s between 315-330gsm. This puts the wrap in the heavyweight category. Not surprising, as it’s got an extra component to it compared to Firespiral’s other two weave types.
Heavyweight wraps aren’t really my cup of tea. I find they need take more effort to tighten and put more strain on my finger joints with my hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Despite this, I really enjoyed the time that Firespiral Bifrost Starmap was with us.
Firespiral’s all cotton wraps are known for their super soft feel and Bifrost Starmap is no exception to this. We were the first family to try out this particular wrap and although it wasn’t yet broken in, it still had a lovely soft feel to it. As this wrap becomes broken in, it’ll get even softer and will take less effort to tighten.
Although I found the loom state (not broken in) Firespiral Bifrost Starmap a little more challenging to tighten well, it was very forgiving of a sloppy wrap job! So I didn’t loose any support when using it to wear Elise. I suspect this is largely down to the Synergy weave structure.
I’d say that this wrap would be suitable for all but the most beginner of wrappers and can see it being a great wrap to use with unruly toddlers. Once broken in, I think Firespiral Bifrost Starmap would be a great newborn option due to it’s softness – particularly during the colder months!
