One of my fondest memories of childhood is the time spent with my Mum and sister, making Christmas presents. This is something I want for Elise. The thought behind a handmade Christmas present is so special. Last Christmas, I was really unwell. So my focus was to enjoy making presents and try to rest and enjoy our first Christmas as a family of 3. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share what we made, our Christmas footprint gifts, so I hope you don’t mind that it’s a year late.
When it comes to crafting, Pinterest is my go-to for inspiration. Wanting to make something special for Elise’s first Christmas gifts, I knew footprint art was just the thing as soon as I spotted it on Pinterest. There are a variety of different characters you can make with a painty footprint – a snowman, reindeer, holly and more. Not forgetting handprint characters. Initially, I chose to make holly footprint art. I got several little easels from The Works for £2. I made sure I got a few more than I needed – I knew I’d need a practice run or three! My sister leant me some of her paints and we were ready to go!
I have to admit, Lissie wasn’t thrilled about having her feet painted. I put her in her highchair with some toys to play with and music on, but she wasn’t having any of it. I managed one footprint a day. Trying to do any more than this got way too stressful for us both. I managed three Holly canvases before realising that getting two footprints on each canvas was not a good idea. So I decided to continue with reindeer pictures instead.
For each of the canvases, I left the footprints to dry until the next day, before making them into characters. Before wrapping I added ‘Christmas 2018’ and Elise’s name on the back of each canvas.
