So, hay fever season is well & truly in full swing. Whether you have mild or sever hay fever, use natural remedies, self medicate or are prescribed medication by a doctor, the Hay Fever Relief App is for you!
The Hay Fever Relief App is the brain child of Dr Paul Carson, a hay fever specialist with over 30 years experience & his son David Carson. David, a tech whiz, decided to take his father’s knowledge & experience & put it into an app to make it widely available. I got to talk to Dr Carson about the app & non medicated options for managing hay fever, which I will be posting on next year.
So let me tell you a little about the Hay Fever Relief App *. There are three main sections, Explore, Add Your Symptoms & Information.
All products marked with * have been gifted to me for consideration. More information can be found in my full disclaimer. I received a consultation with Dr Carson for reviewing the app.

Hay Fever Relief App ‘Explore’ Section
The Explore section of the Hay Fever Relief App allows you to see how physical structure changes with hay fever. You can see how your nose, ears, eyes & other areas of the face are affected by hay fever. It’s fantastic to see the inner workings of the body & how pollen can cause inflammation. I like how the interactive diagrams make it easy to see what is going on in my body to cause my hay fever symptoms. The written information that accompanies the diagrams is detailed, but to the point, so you aren’t bombarded with information.

Hay Fever Relief App ‘Add Your Symptoms’ Section
The Symptoms section of the Hay Fever Relief App allows you to record what you’re experiencing to determine the best treatment for you. This is excellent, as in the UK, 85% of hay fever sufferers self-medicated. With a wide variety of hay fever relief products available, how do you know which is suitable for your symptoms? The Hay Fever Relief App has you covered! I’ve tried a few different symptom combinations to find out what the app recommends in terms of treatment & management. I have to say that I’ve been very impressed!
Based on your symptoms, the app suggests the type of medication that would most benefit you. In addition, it gives brand names as recommendations. This makes it much easier for people to know that they are buying the right type of product. But it isn’t just self medication that is suggested. Depending on your symptoms, the app may recommend self-help tips or that you visit your GP.

I spoke to Dr Carson about the app. He told me that he & his son have worked hard to get it to trigger a recommendation to visit your doctor with just the right combination & severity of symptoms, which is very reassuring. This was something that I was glad to see, especially after learning how many people self-medicate their hay fever. It’s important if you’re doing this that you know when to visit your doctor for different medication & advice.
Hay Fever Relief App ‘Information’ Section
For me, the most impressive aspect of the Hay Fever Relief App is the Information section. In addition to information on pollen allergy symptoms, there are some great self-help tips. These can be used alone or in combination with medication to reduce symptoms, depending on how you are affected. There are links to information on the pollen count in different countries, perfect for planning a holiday. The information on the pollen season is also useful for deciding on a travel destination.
My favourite parts of the Information section are ‘Hay Fever & Asthma’ & ‘Food Sensitivities’ (in the ‘Don’t Like Medicines?’). I think that lot of people overlook the link between Hay Fever, Asthma & Food Allergies. So it’s fantastic that the Hay Fever Relief App addresses these. Did you know that if you’re allergic to grass pollen, you are more likely to also react to wheat, kiwi & raw tomato? I did, but only because my Mum did a lot of research into all different types of allergic reaction when my sister & I were children. Plus, our GP was an allergy specialist. This isn’t something that most people would be aware of.

Plus, did you know that there is such a thing as seasonal asthma? This is something my Dad developed in later life & is directly linked to his hay fever. So not only does pollen trigger my Dad’s hay fever, it also triggers his asthma. Until this happened to Dad, I didn’t know seasonal asthma existed!
The Hay Fever Relied App also includes a treatment guide which gives you a run down of the 5 medical compounds that are used to treat hay fever, explaining what they are & how they help to reduce symptoms. I never knew there were as many different groups of medication, so once I’m able to try different treatments again, I’ll be speaking to my GP about which will be best for me.
As I’ve mentioned, the Hay Fever Relief App has a section on non-medical management options for hay fever, which is something I’ll be discussing next month. This is something that I’ve found interesting at the moment, with their only being one hay fever medication that is suitable for pregnancy & that not being very effective for me. So keep your eyes peeled for that!

My Overall Opinion Of The Hay Fever Relief App
My overall opinion is that the Hay Fever Relief App a fantastic resource to help people manage their hay fever & will keep (& possibly even reduce) the number of people needing to visit their GP about their hay fever to a minimum. I’m hoping that if people are able to use this app to receive the right information, it will reduce the burden on our already stretched NHS.

Great post! I’d never heard about this app before but now I shall definitely be checking it out! Long time sufferer of hayfever x
Thanks Meaghan! I’ve been so impressed with the Hay Fever Relief app. There’s not a single thing that I’ve been able to think of that isn’t included. Xx
This app looks and sounds so interesting! I had no idea there was more than one way to treat hayfever, I just take anti-histamines and they seem to work most days. I just wish somebody would come out with affordable eye drops for contact lens wearers! My eyes are so itchy during hayfever season, some days I can’t even put my contact lenses in, never mind eye makeup, ha!

It’s brilliant! Anti-histamines are the main medication used to treat hay fever, but there are also anti-leukotrienes to reduce, mast-cell stabilisers & steroids. The app explains these well, so definitely worth having a read. There are also non-pharmacological options too. I’m really lucky that I don’t wear contacts, but affordable eye drops would definitely be helpful! Xx
This is genius! I always just guess and take my medication incase but this is so much easier to work out!

I’ve been thoroughly impressed, particularly with the level of detailed information. IT goes far beyond what a GP is likely to tell you. Xx

Definitely worth checking out the app to help you work out if you do have hay fever & what you can do to reduce symptoms. It may be worth visiting your GP to get a diagnosis, particularly if your symptoms get worse. Xx

Ohh, personally I don’t suffer from hay fever but my boyfriend does, every time it comes round to the hay fever season he goes crazy! Anyway, this is such a helpful little app and thanks for sharing your informative review. :) There really is an app for everything these days, isn’t there! I think that’s awesome. :D Sure everyone can just Google the info but I think it’s useful to have everything in one place, like in an app. :) Thanks for sharing! x

Sorry to hear your boyfriends suffers so much as a result of hay fever. It’s a brilliant app &, because it’s been created with a hay fever specialist, you know that all the information is accurate & trustworthy, unlike some of the websites a Google search would throw up. I was very impressed that the interplay between hay fever & certain foods was covered. This is something I’ve only ever found in one book before, but is very important & something I don’t think a lot of GPs are even aware of. Xx
