Migraine Art Collection with Migraine Action

Migraine Action are a UK charity who support migraineurs (people who suffer with migraine) & their families. They have been a fantastic support to my family & me. My Mum won their Carer of The Year Award 2010.

In addition to being a fabulous charity, Migraine Action also holds one of the few migraine collections in the world. This collection contains more than 500 works of art that express what it’s like to suffer with migraine. The collection includes pieces from adults & children from all walks of life, covering a diverse range of migraine symptoms & experiences. From visual disturbances to the pain migraineurs experience, the art work in the collection provides insight to those who don’t suffer with migraine & a sense of understanding to those who do.

Migraine Art Collection Migraine Awareness Week

With the help of the University of Leicester, Migraine Action are making this migraine art collection available for public viewing. You can view it for free at migraineart.org.uk! Here, you can search images based on symptom, body element, visual element, age range, gender & more to find a visual representation of what different migraines feel like. Please be aware that some of these images represent visual distortions experienced by some migraine sufferers. These may trigger migraine or other conditions (such epilepsy) in those who are photosensitive.

You can find out how you can get involved in Migraine Awareness week on the Migraine Action website, along with information about Migraine & Art. I’ll also be sharing my Basilar type migraine diagnosis story over on The Olive Fox during Migraine Awareness Week 2016. You can find out more about my life with migraine under my migraine category.

Are you or someone you know a migraineur? What are you doing for Migraine Awareness Week 2016?

  1. Such a wonderful, informative post! I had no idea that one in seven people suffer from migraines… That’s pretty scary! Luckily, I’ve never experienced a migraine myself but my Mum had them and it was pretty horrible. So glad that charities like this exist to educate and support people, so thank you for raising the awareness! <3 Hope you're having a fab week so far. x x

    • Thank you so much! I’m glad you haven’t experienced a migraine & hope you never do. We’re very lucky to have Migraine Action to support both sufferers & their families. Xx

  2. Wow, many of these images are almost painful to look at when you have felt a similar pain. What a great initiative though! I have had to fight misconceptions about migraines at my workplace so I fully appreciate how helpful charities like Migraine Action are.

    • I haven’t looked at them for that very reason. I think it highly likely they would worsen my migraine pain & cause additional symptoms. I’m so sorry you’ve experienced problems in the workplace. I can sympathise as I was discriminated against because of mine. I think it’s great that there is a collection that will give people an idea of what people experience with migraine. Xx
