Wow! Where have the first three months of this year gone!?! I have to admit that I’ve not worn makeup very often at all – not surprising when I rarely leave the house. Hopefully this’ll change in the not too distant future, as we’ve already raised 3/4 of the amount needed for a SmartDrive (check out my GoFundMe page for more information). Despite my lack of makeup wearing, I’ve made some progress on the products I’ve been working on for this year’s project pan (particularly non-makeup items). So I thought I’d share my 2018 Project Pan Update 1 with you today!
All products marked with * have been gifted to me for consideration. More information can be found in my full disclaimer.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: ThisWorks Turbo Balm – Finished 18/1/18
I hadn’t expected to use up an entire Turbo Balm in half a month! Previously, using it on my hands and cuticles has taken a few months to get through a whole pot. But with this one, I’ve used it on my feet after a shower. The heat from the shower softened the balm, making it easier to get the amount I wanted out. This also meant that I used the balm up quicker, as I wasn’t having to work as hard.
Introduction
Update 1
Now that I’ve used up all my ThisWorks Turbo Balms, it took me a couple of weeks to decide what to introduce into my 2018 project pan as a replacement product. I ended up settling on my Dr PawPaw Peach Balm.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: Dr PawPaw Pink Peach Balm – Started 31/1/18
I love the formula of the Dr PawPaw balms, but I find that I don’t reach for the tinted versions as often as they deserve because I find it really difficult to apply without ending up with colour surrounding my lips as well as on them. I also feel that application leaves my fingers in a sticky, coloured mess (particularly the red shade). So as I’m at home most of the time at the moment, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to use one of my tinted Dr PawPaw balms up, hopefully finding a way of getting round the messy aspect that’s put me off using them previously.
Starting point at 31/1/18
I tried using this as my lip balm during the day, while I’m at home. I didn’t want to use it at night and ruin our white pillows! Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to apply it once without it smearing round the outside of my lips. Dan then commented that he thought I was having an allergic reaction because my lips looked bigger than usual. So to be on the safe side, and as I was making a mess of using the Pink Peach balm on my lips, I decided to give up on this.
Update 1 (progress up to 1/3/18)
So instead, I’ve been using the Dr PawPaw Pink Peach balm on my heels. I have to do so just before putting a pair of socks on, to avoid staining the carpet. But, it does work to help my cracked heels. Unfortunately, it also leaves them slightly pink stained, even after a shower. So it’s something I’m only going to be able to do during the colder months. Can you imagine wearing sandals with pink heels! Haha But, at least this will help me use the Pink Peach balm up, rather than having it sat in a draw.
I put a pause on this product from 1st March, so I didn’t have pink heels for Elise’s birth! With spring around the corner, I don’t think I’ll be using this balm again until autumn rolls around. Sandal weather often appears in the UK out of the blue and I’d hate to be stuck in shoes for the week plus it takes for the pink stain to disappear. I’ll start using it again in Autumn.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: Nivea Soft Hand Cream – Started 3/3/18
I’ve decided to add in my Nivea Soft Hand Cream. I figured this would be a good idea, as I’ll only be using the Dr PawPaw balm during sock-wearing months. So this is kind of like a replacement product, but I’ll be overlapping them a little.
Hand cream is something I always neglect. With the snow at the beginning of the month making my hands super dry, I knew I had to change this! For someone who never uses hand cream, I’m surprised that when I put this into my project I was already more than half way through. Fingers crossed that’s a good sign for me being able to finish this hand cream off!
I’ve largely avoided using hand cream for two reasons. One, they gunk up my rings which is annoying! Two, they tend to leave my hands sticky. I have to say that the Nivea Soft Hand Cream has been easier for me to use than some hand creams. And, now that I’ve lost a lot of my Gabapentin weight, taking my rings of to put hand cream on isn’t the big, stressful task that it used to be.
Hand cream at starting point on 3/3/18.
Unfortunately, there was air in the bottle and it had been lying down when I came to mark the progress, so I wasn’t able to.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: Urban Decay Primer Potion – finished 4/3/18
I’ve used this primer 3 or 4 times and have managed to finish it up. It’s been close to finishing for a while now, so I’m glad it’s used up now. I’ve received so many of these with palettes that I’ve never had to buy one and still have a few unused! You’ve probably noticed that this primer is still in the old packaging – that’s how long I’ve had it!
2018 Project Pan Update 1: DHC mascara*
This has actually been a great mascara for my bottom lashes. The brush is so small that I can really get in and pick out every eyelash. I didn’t get on with it at all for my top lashes, which need a LOT of help to look half decent. So I’m going to be using it until the end of the year, or when it’s finished up. Which ever comes first.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: NARS Concealer
I’ve got to admit that I haven’t used concealer at all! As my glasses are so dark at the moment, I can get away with just adding some of my MAC MSF Natural under my eyes and putting my glasses on. This saves me time and energy, so has been my go-to on the few occasions that I’ve worn makeup this year. So I’ve made no progress on my NARS Concealer at all, but that’s ok.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: L’Oreal Skin Perfection
I haven’t used my L’Oreal Skin Perfection as much as I’d planned to – I keep forgetting! Despite this, I have made some progress on it, which I’m pleased about. It was pretty full when I started it.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: Urban Decay Eyeliner
I’ve used my Urban Decay eyeliner maybe twice? I can’t quite remember, but it certainly hasn’t been very much. Still, I’ve made some progress on it. Which is something. I’ll be persevering, but won’t be too disappointed if I’m not able to finish it up before the year is over.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: Barbara Daly Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown and the Soap & Glory Brow Archery
With how little I’ve worn makeup these past few months, I’m quite pleased with the progress I’ve made, particularly on the Barbra Daly pencil. I use this to fill in the main body of my brows. The Soap & Glory Archery gives a much better shade for me in the sparser areas of my brows. So I use this in the tails and for filling in the gap above my right eyebrow, so that both brows look even.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: GOSH Lip Oil* – Finished 30/1/18
It really surprised me that I finished almost an entire lip oil in a month! I’m hopeful that this will mean that once I’m wearing makeup more often, I’ll be able to make some good progress on some of my other lip products. I really enjoyed using the GOSH Lip Oil. I won’t bore you with the details about this product, as you can read my thoughts in my GOSH Lip Oil review post.
Introduction
Update 1
In place of the GOSH Lip Oil, I’m adding in my Benefit Hoola Lip Gloss.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: Benefit Hoola Lip Gloss Sample – Started 31/1/18, Finished 25/2/18
I love the Benefit Plush Glosses and got Hoola free with a magazine many years ago. But I’d never got around to trying it! I started using this product at the end of last year, and managed to get through quite a lot of it. The lip gloss itself is lovely, but the colour doesn’t do much for me. It’s a nude shade that evens out the colour of my lips, but not much else.
Starting point at 31/1/18
For my 2018 project pan, I have been concentrating on using it before bed, as the colour isn’t going to stain our white pillows. I’ve also be using it when I leave the house for hospital appointments, etc. Once I gave up using my Dr PawPaw tinted balm on my lips, this took it’s place for daily use. I though aiming for my first update might be a bit ambitious, but actually I’ve surprised myself and managed to finish it off!
Finished on 25/2/18 – It looks like there’s a little left. I can’t squeeze any more out, so I’m counting it as done.
In place of my Benefit Hoola Lip Gloss, I’m adding in my Anatomicals Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm. I don’t have any more sheer lip glosses that I’d want to use up in place of a lip balm, so it makes sense to switch over to working on a lip balm now.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: Anatomicals Stop Cracking Up Lip Balm* – Started 1/3/18
I love this lip balm – check out my Anatomicals Lip Balm Review for more info on this. While I love this lip balm, I have a few lip balms on the go at the moment, which is not an ideal situation. Three of my lip balms I can only use during the warmer months, because they aren’t as intensive as I need for winter. The Stop Cracking Up lip balm is a perfect option for winter, so I decided to work through this one, as I also have the cherry version open. This was pretty much full when I started it, so I’ve only marked the point I reached at this update.
I’m not sure if I’m impressed or disappointed that I’ve used up half the tube in just a month.
2018 Project Pan Update 1: The Body Shop Perfume Oil in Vanilla and Pink Fruit Punch – Vanilla finished 31/03/18
The first three months of 2018 have been focussed on using my Vanilla Perfume Oil. However, when I’ve been feeling particularly stressed out, I’ve opted for my DKNY Be Delicious perfume. I read somewhere many years ago that the smell of green apple can be helpful in times of stress. I don’t know if it works, but I read it during a time when my PTSD symptoms were starting to appear again and thought it was worth a try!
Introduction
I’ve had the stress of waiting for my PIP reapplication decision, as well as trying to get doctors to listen to me, understand my medical needs and consider how we’re going to minimise their impact in a birth plan recently. So I’ve been reaching for my DKNY perfume sometimes, to try and keep me just that little bit calmer.
Despite not exclusively using my Vanilla Perfume Oil, I’ve *just* managed to finish it buy the end of the first three months. I really wasn’t expecting that!
Update 1 – It looks like there’s a little perfume left, but it’s just the bottle
Now it’s time to switch to my Pink Fruit Punch Oil and see how much of that I can use up! I’d like to be half way by my next update and finished by my third update. But, as long as I’m more than half way through Pink Fruit Punch by my third update, I’ll be happy.
