Managing sleep with chronic illness can be hard. Our symptoms can make it difficult to fall asleep and then wake us during the night. This can have a knock on effect on our chronic illnesses and leave us in a vicious circle. The #SpoonieSpeak community came together to talk about the impact chronic illness can have on sleep, and the ways in which we can minimise and manage these difficulties.
The ‘Managing Sleep With Chronic Illness’ chat took place on 17th February, hosted by the @SpoonieSpeak twitter account.
Huge apologies for not being able to add clickable links to the images below, or add descriptions of the text to the images. I’m in a pain flare at the moment, which has had a significant impact on my hands. I’ll be coming back to this chat highlights to add these at a later date.
Q1. Do you have difficulty with sleep? Do you have difficulty getting to sleep, waking up in the night or both?
Q2. What symptom(s) of your chronic illness(s) do you find interferes most with your ability to sleep?
Q3. Do you have a nighttime routine? What does it consist of and has it helped your sleep?
Q4. Have you found anything else that helps you get to &/or stay sleep?
Chatting about managing sleep with chronic illness with the #SpoonieSpeak community has been great fun.
Next week’s topic is Managing Unpredictable Situations with Chronic Illness (with thanks to @hamrowannie for the inspiration for this topic). We’d love it if you could join us!
