Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara Review

I tried Maybelline mascaras when I was at uni in London, so that must’ve been 7+ years ago? I have to admit that I didn’t get on with them, but can’t remember why. When I tired a sample of the Benefit Roller Lash mascara (check out my Roller Lash Mascara review) I really liked it, but the price put me off. I just don’t have £19.50 to spend on mascara, hell – I don’t have £19.50 to spend on anything! I’d heard that the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara was a dupe, so I uhmed & ahed & eventually bought one!

To start off with, I was a little disappointed. My lashes are naturally straight, so I really need a mascara to lift, curl & hold them in place. I always curl my lashes with the No7 Eyelash Curler before applying mascara. While the mascara held a curl, it was virtually impossible not to get several lashes stuck together in big clumps. Not attractive. I’m pleased to say that this significantly improves after about a week. I think this had more to do with the formula having a chance to dry out than me getting use to the wand.

Once I got past the clumpy stage, I liked the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara a whole lot more. I still have to be careful when applying my second coat of mascara, but the applications don’t end up looking like I have five big lashes instead of lots of normal sized ones. I wouldn’t agree with the ‘Low wax formula for intense blackness without sticking lashes together’ though.

I really like the mascara wand. I’ve always found curved wands easier to work with, I’m not sure why! Having 6 different lengths of bristles on the brush was initially tricky, but I got used to what worked for me in terms of the angle I held the brush quickly. The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara claims to volumes & define your eye lashes, giving them a multiplied look & I definitely think it does this!

Packaging isn’t something that usually factors much into whether I like a mascara or not, but I have to say that holding the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara has been easier on my hands with my EDS than many other mascaras. This is down to the tapered ends, I don’t know what it is about them but they make the wand easier & more comfortable to hold. I love the packaging colour choice too!

Personally, I don’t think this mascara is a dupe for the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara. The wand isn’t the same & the formula is thicker. I never had any issue with the Roller Lash even hinting at clumping my lashes together, but  do need to be careful with the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. I also don’t feel the Roller Lash does much in the way of providing volume to my lashes, which the Maybelline definitely does!

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Overall, I do really like the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara. So much so that I’m tempted to try some of their other mascaras, having previously been put off. You can find the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara at Superdrug.com & Boots.com for £7.99 for a 9.5ml tube. It comes in Very Black, Intense Black (not sure the difference between these two though), Brown & Waterproof. There is also a Lash Sensational Luscious Mascara that’s oil infused for softer lashes!

Have you tried the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara? What did you think of it? Which are your favourite Maybelline mascaras that I NEED to try?

  1. I’ve heard such mixed reviews of this one! Personally, I haven’t tried it yet… I’ve never had much luck with Maybelline mascaras in general, so I wasn’t too keen on trying this one. I do like how it looks on your lashes, although it does also seem like it could easily become quite clumpy. Thanks for sharing your honest review, hun! <3

    • I’ve never had much luck with Maybelline mascaras, so I was really taking a gamble picking this one up. I’m glad I did, but you’re right that it easily becomes clumpy. It’s better once the formula dries down a little. Xx

    • I always prefer two coats, as I need my eyes to show through from behind my green lenses, but one coat looks lovely for a more natural, subtle look. Xx

  2. Thanks for your review! My budget for makeup is pretty low so I enjoy seeing products bought at the drug or beauty supply store. I liked your photos about how the mascara looked on you!

    • Thanks! I’m so glad it was helpful. I prefer budget mascaras to expensive ones, they tend to do a similar job & what with mascara having to be replaced frequently, I don’t see expensive mascara as an investment like I do some of my other products. Xx

    • I really hope you like it! Definitely worth persevering initially. Maybe buy it a little earlier than you’re going to need it & open it so that it’ll be ready for when you want to use it. Xx
