Styling A Grey Knitted Gilet

Today I have the last of my outfits from holiday to share with you. But never fear, these have gone down well and I’ve really enjoyed creating them, so I’m going to carry on! For the (probably) last on my ‘styling leggings and a t-shirt’ posts, I want to share with you how I wear these with a knitted gilet and skirt.

I bought this knitted gilet 4-5 years ago from Marks & Spencer. I don’t often shop in M&S, but I had a voucher so went in to see what I could find. While looking rounds, I fell in love with this grey knitted gilet. So much so that I went back a few weeks later and bought one in khaki for my sister’s Christmas present. It’s cosy, comfortable to wear and goes with so many things! I really like the design that’s knitted into the gilet. I’m not sure what it’s called unfortunately, but I’m sure I’ve seen it in my Mother-in-Law’s knitting book.

My New Look corduroy skirt is one that I’ve had for many, many years. 16 years in fact! New Look have gone through 2 rebrands since I bought this skirt. I love the length of this corduroy skirt, particularly now that I’m sitting down a lot! The colour is also lovely. It’s not quite brown, not quite grey and goes with so many things. It’s a pencil cut skirt, which is slightly easier to wheel in than an ‘A’ line skirt, as the end of the skirt doesn’t move around and get near the wheels (though in this outfit the knitted gilet does this instead!). When I first bought this skirt I had a light pink roll neck jumper that I used to wear with it often. That was one of my favourite outfits as a 14 year old.

The long sleeved t-shirt I’ve chosen with this outfit have a ‘V’ neckline and is from Primark. The leggings are my favourites from Select. 2 for £8? Yes please! As I only took one pair of shoes to Center Parcs on holiday, they feature in this outfit too. These are my New Look boots that I bought last year. This outfit would look equally good with a pair of black boots.

knitted gilet, silver & pearl necklace

To compliment the neckline of my t-shirt and my knitted gilet, I wore this beautiful pearl and silver necklace. This was a 30th birthday present from my best friend from school and I love it. Se also bought me matching earrings, which are just as pretty as the necklace.

  1. I always feel so fancy when I use the word gilet…although I only use it when searching for vests on asos. Cause if I search vests it gives me tank tops. Oh how interesting the English language is :D

I love the gilet/ vest! It looks so cozy! That’s really impressive that the skirt has lasted so long. It must be amazing quality!

    • I know what you mean! I wouldn’t call it a vest, probably because that’s one of the UK names for a tank top. I’m always so interested by how the same word is used differently in the US/UK. I’ve always thought of these as a type of waistcoat. The term gilet seems alien to me. Xx
