What’s In My Hospital Makeup Bag?

Tomorrow, I’ll be heading down to London for two days of tests for PoTS & other forms of dysautonomia at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery. This will be followed by an afternoon of treatment at the same hospital for my migraine. Because I don’t live close & need have an early start on Wednesday & Thursday, the hospital are putting me up in a hotel overnight with my Mum as my carer. So I thought I would share with you what I’ll be taking in my hospital makeup bag! I might not use any of these products, but I’d like to have them there incase I do want to use them. I’ve already posted my hospital toiletry bag, so check that out if you want to see what skin & body care products I’ll be taking with me.

*I took my camera with me to vlog, have you seen my Autonomic Function Tests video?

Hospital Makeup Bag: Eyes

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara Sample Size

I got this with a magazine (can’t remember which) & I love it! Perfect size to travel with & a lovely mascara so I don’t have to skimp on quality. I have a review of the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara if you want to know more about it.

Barry M Shimmering Eye & Lip Crayon

You can’t get these any more, which is why I am trying to use this up too. It’s taking for ever to make progress with though! I love it for the inner corner of my eyes to brighten my eyes & make me look more awake!

GOSH Forever Eye Shadow in Silver Rose

This pencil has staying power that rivals the Maybelline Colour Tattoos. It’s in a better form to travel with than the Colour Tattoos, which are in a heave glass jar. The colour is pretty swiped over the lid with nothing else, so this will be my eyeshadow shade should I choose to put makeup on. Check out my GOSH Forever Eye Shadow Review for more information on this product.

Hospital Makeup Bag: Face

MAC MSF Natural in Light Plus

Most days I’m wearing makeup, this is what I’ll be using for my base. I’m really lucky that I don’t need a lot of coverage, so this is perfect. It’s quick & easy for me to apply too!

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer

This is a great concealer to use without a primer underneath – ideal for cutting down on the products you’re travelling with. It’s a little on the yellow side & a little too dark for my taste. Sneak peak – this will be in next year’s project pan! I’d love it if we had the brightening concealer in this country, but alas we don’t. Check out my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer Review for more information on this.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder in No.1

This is one of the few loose powders I own because I’m so clumsy I often end up spilling them. Saying that, it’s one I will never be without as it sets my concealer beautifully & is the only product I use EVERY time I put on makeup.

Dr. PawPaw Balms*

I’m taking all three of the Dr PawPaw balms. I love these! They are great at moisturising & protecting the skin – great for Autumn. They can also be used for a number of purposes. I’ll be using the red & peachy pink balms for both my lips & cheeks to give a tint of colour without looking overly made up. It will also mean I don’t need to take makeup brushes! I have a full review on the Dr. PawPaw Original Balm if you want to check that out for more information.

Urban Decay Lip Junkie in Naked

This is one of my project pan items & I’m determined to finish it this year! It came with my Naked 2 palette. As well as being the ideal size to travel with, it is also a great shade to apply on the go – no mirror needed.

Hospital Makeup Bag: Brows

Tom Ford Brow Sculptor

I bought this when it was all the rage & I never really fell in love with the colour. I threw it into my project pan & have been using it with the Maybelline Brow Drama. Thankfully, I really like this combination! The Brow Drama adds a cooler tone to the warm tones of the Brow Sculptor & I much prefer a cooler shade to my brows. Check out my review of the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor for an in depth review.

Maybelline Brow Drama in Dark Brown

I threw this product into my project pan too, as I didn’t feel it filled in the sparse areas in my brows, which is what I really need. It works nicely with the Tom Ford Brow Sculptor though, you just have to make sure as to not catch any of the hairs above or below the brows or you’ll end up looking like you need to pluck your eyebrows! You can find out more about this product in my Maybelline Vs. Rimmel Brow Gel post.

Hospital Makeup Bag: Tools

Laura Mercier Pony Tail Brush

I love this brush & use it every time I apply my makeup to set my concealer with the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder.

Real Techniques Buffing Brush (from the Core Collection)

This is my go-to brush for applying my MAC MSF Natural for my base.

No7. Eyeylash Curlers

My lashes are dead straight. Most mascaras they make me look worse unless I’ve curled my lashes first! I’ve always loved the No.7 eyelash curlers (click the link for my review). My most recent purchase of these disappointed me a little though. The quality wasn’t as good as ones I’d previously owned. I’ll definitely be buying these again once they’ve come to the end of their life, but if the quality isn’t better, I’ll be looking into getting the Shu Uemura eye lash curlers.

Tweezermen Wide Grip Slant Tweezers

For those rogue hairs! I love my ergonomic tweezers. They were expensive, but they take the pressure off my fingers, which are some of the most affected joints by my EDS.

Cotton Buds in a Muji PP Case

I always have cotton bods with me when doing my makeup. They’re great for touchups, especially getting dried mascara off your lids!

Invisibobble

These hair bands are really useful. They’re great for not leaving kinks in your hair. As I won’t be able to shower Thursday morning because I’ll be hooked up to monitors I’ll be straightening my hair before I go down to London. Otherwise my hair will look like a frizzy mess! If I need to tie my hair up, this will be the best band for the job.

The toiletry bag is part of a set & was a gift-with-purchase from Clarins a few years ago.

What makeup would you take with you for a hospital stay?

  1. Hi Tania, wow babes, thats a lot to go through when the hospital is so far away! Hope all goes well for you. Fab post, more makeup then I took as mine was more skincare. Have you heard of ABC antic-bac wipes? so handy. If you look for a ‘hospital needs’ post on my blog, you will see what i took with me when I had a hip replacement in May (a post on the ABC wipes too somewhere). I didn’t get to use everything as lack of sleep and morphine made feel ‘Why bother?’ at times. Not tried Dr Paw Paw, will have to have a peek. Hope all goes ok with tests.

    • It went well Heidi, though the 24 hour blood pressure monitor could be used as a method of torture with the amount of sleep I managed to get! I didn’t have any major symptoms during the tests, but have a variety of minor ones, so hopefully the hospital will be able to piece together what’s going on. I din’t end up wearing any of the makeup I took, but I’m glad I had it with me anyway! I haven’t heard of ABC anti-abc wipes. I need something like that for public toilets, as more & more are having hand dryers with blue lights installed which is at worst uncomfortable for me & at worst could cause me to loose consciousness! Xx
