What’s In My On-The-Go Makeup Bag?

When this post goes live, I’ll be in a school minibus on a road trip with my husband to Kent to pick up scenery for his school’s musical. I’m actually really looking forward to it! I’ve packed us up some treats for the journey, as it’s going to be a long day. As we’re going to be eating our meals out to break the journey, I wanted to pack an on-the-go makeup bag. I’ll most likely be applying my makeup in the car, as we are leaving the house at 8am. So if you want to see what makeup I’ll be wearing (and applying in the minibus) for our road trip, keep reading!

On-The-Go Makeup

On-The-Go Makeup: Base

Unusually, I have more base products packed for my road trip than any other category. This is because I need to make sure my dark under eye circles stay well and truly hidden! I’ve noticed that my pores are showing on my cheeks, underneath my concealer. To reduce this, I’ve been applying my Benefit The POREfessional primer.

To disguise my under eye circles, I’ll be using my Pixi Correction Concentrate with my Real Techniques Detailer Brush from the Core Collection. This is the only corrector I’ve tried and I’ve been very impressed. I bought it because I couldn’t quite bring myself to spend the money on the Bobbi Brown corrector without knowing if a corrector was for me. It is and I’m excited to try other correctors once this one is finished.

With the corrector applied over the darkness under my eyes, I’ll take my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in a triangle under my eyes and done to my cheek and blend with my ring finger. I’ll then set this with my Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder, using my Laura Mercier Pony Tail brush.

For my face, I’ll be using my trusty MAC MSF Natural with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush from the Core Collection. This combination gives me just the right abut of coverage on minimal makeup days.

On-The-Go Makeup: Eyes

I’m planning to go simple for my eye makeup. So simple that I won’t even need to pack an eyeshadow brush! As a shadow, I’ll be using my GOSH Forever Eye Shadow Stick in Silver Rose. While I love the Maybelline Colour Tattoos, their glass jar is too heavy to travel with. The GOSH Forever Eye Shadow Sticks are just as good in quality and easier to pack and use on the go!

On-The-Go Makeup

I’m going for a minimal look, but I still want to define my eyes so that they show through from behind my Precision Tinted Lenses. To do this, I’m going to be using my Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil in Zero. A pencil will be the easiest type of eyeliner to apply when in the minibus. It will also give me another opportunity to make some progress on this eyeliner, which is in my 2017 Project Pan. I’m paranoid that my pencil will end up blunt mid eye, so I’ll have my No7 pencil sharpener with me. Just incase.

Every makeup look needs mascara. I’ve just picked up the L’Oreal False Lash Superstar X Fiber Mascara to replace my Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara and will have a review up next week. As always, I’ll be using my No7 Eyelash Curler, to give myself a wide-eyed look.

On-The-Go Makeup: Brows

My go-to for my brows at the moment are the Soap & Glory Brow Archery, set with the MUA clear mascara (that’s looking rather dirty!). These are easy to apply when travelling and are also in my project pan, so they seem the obvious choice for my on-the-go makeup. I’ll be brushing my brows through with my & Other Stories Eyelash Brush (basically a spoolie). It’s times like this that it’s really handy to have a brow pencil with a spoolie attached.

On-The-Go Makeup: Cheeks

Another project pan item is my NARS cream blusher in Penny Lane. Cream blushes are so easy to apply on-the-go, particularly such a wearable shade as this.

On-The-Go Makeup: Lips

I wanted a neutral shade for my lips that would be comfortable to wear and easy to reapply. I thought the L’Oreal Colour Riche Extrodinaire Lip Gloss in 500, Molto Mauve would be perfect! This is such a comfortable lipgloss to wear and the colour is lovely. At the time of planning my on-the-go makeup, I wasn’t sure what I would be wearing on our road trip. This shade will go with anything. I thought a lipstick would look too dressy for a road trip and, while we will be eating out, we won’t be pausing for drinks and a chat afterwards. So it will be easy for me to quickly reapply my lipgloss.

On-The-Go Makeup: Perfume

I’m really enjoying wearing perfume on a daily basis at the moment. I have quite a few perfume samples, that I’d like to use up. As they’re perfect for on-the-go, I’ll be taking my GHOST perfume sample on our road trip.

On-The-Go Makeup: Tools

As well as the brushes, I will have my Tweezerman Wide Grip Tweezers with me. I’ll gave groomed my brows before hand, but you never know when you’ll come across a stray hair! I’ll also have my nail scissors with me. I don’t use these as nails scissors, but brow scissors instead. They also come in handy as on-the-go scissors, because you never know when you’ll need to cut something. My final tool is a small Muji holder filled with cotton buds. I find these really helpful for sorting out smudges in my eye makeup, which I tend to get more of when I first start using a new mascara.

On-The-Go Makeup: Makeup Bag

I’ve packed all of my on-the-go makeup into my Muji cosmetics bag. I love this bag, because it has a section to keep my more delicate brushes safe and secure. While the bag is small and compact, it has the right amount of space for an everyday face of makeup.

    • It’s gorgeous! Such a shame NARS discontinued it. The eyeshadow stick is gorgeous and they have a lovely selection of shades. I can highly recommend them. Xx

  1. When I read posts like this one, I always scroll down to read all about the lip product first and then take it from the start. And this lipstick is so pretty, such a beautiful pink shade. It would be a great addition to my spring lipsticks :)

    • I love that you scroll down to the lip products first. I tend to skim over base products in posts like this. The lipgloss really is a gorgeous shade, it’s such a shame that the line has been discontinued. Hopefully L’Oreal have a similar shade in their current line. Xx
